Small dunes made for small fun.. the kids love it.. but if you are there for a big thrills you won't get them there.. and the place too over regulated like every other California thing.. but parking your truck right by the ocean is something else, and this is the only place in California that you can do so.. that's a whole star on its own.. i will always go there with the kids, at least once a month..

It was great. It's the only place in California where you can legally drive on the beach and overnight camp. You can rent atvs and sand buggies. There are plenty of bathrooms spread out throughout. Dogs are allowed. There is an air up station to air back up your tires. There are food restaurants close by. There are plenty of park rangers around to help keep the place safe.

Had the most wonderful 3hours at the beach and the dunes. Didnt get an opportunity to explore the dunes due to my lack of a flag (PSA: if you are hitting the dunes, you need a flag). They do run out of entry passes, so plan and go early. There are lots of support shops around the area- so you can always pop out and pick up stuff. Be safe and enjoy the ride!

Every time I go there I am amazed at the beauty and the mass of water that goes on and on into the horizon. The light that follows a constant path creates almost a surreal visual delight. As fast as it passes our planet missing us by the smallest degree will travel an unfathomable distance before it reaches any sort of final destination. To catch the solar rays at the boundary of it's near miss is to cast a shadow across the endless empty vacuum of space. That is the imprint of me that will eventually land and show itself at an unknown place and time far beyond my imagination. As if I were standing on the moon at the edge of it's dark side during an eclipse casting my shadow on earth. Catching the almost escaping light. Can you see me because that is me and I am there. I can't get enough of this place and when I'm gone from this life I hope to ride this light to the next destination. I'll know I'm in the right spot if my shadow is there to greet me. Natural beauty is beyond judgment. Living on Earth as part of that is our greatest gift. Love has no limit and this place reminds me of this fact every day. Please go and be reminded because you deserve it....
