What a wonderful experience. I would have been happy to give a higher rating except that this tourist attraction needs some important maintenance. This is an easy hike from the parking area immediately next to the big tree at the Catholic Church at the base of the hiking trail. Be careful if you are visiting this place just after it has rained. Much of the path is covered with fallen leaves and could be very slippery and muddy.Much of the trail is cleared and a fair portion is reinforced with several concrete blocks set in place as steps. I found the dense Guamanian jungle to be very beautiful and peaceful. The information sign at the beginning of the trail is about 3 years out of date and covered with some type of algae. Clearly, it should be cleaned or replaced as well as updated. I thought the guns were fascinating to see in person, there are 3 guns on display there. The gun in the centre has been allowed to become overgrown with shrubbery, vines etc. I'd love it if the park service would clear away the brush so that visitors and tourists could get an up-close and safe look at it. Probably a small ramp or staircase would need to be installed. Although the 3rd gun is in great condition, recently a tree has fallen and is leaning on part of the gun. It should be removed soon so as not to impose a danger of falling on someone. Also, near the 1st gun, a few paces uphill, I found the remains of a fallen shed of some type. I cannot tell if it had anything to do with the World War II conflict or was there for some other purpose. It had some interesting construction seams I thought. The Piti guns are well worth a visit, I would encourage every visitor to Guam to take the time to see them. My estimate is that you should allow about 40 or 45 minutes to go up the trail, see them all and then return back...
Read moreA cool and short trip up to some history. There is a small parking area at the foot of the trail, but Maps will take you to a random point on the road. I parked by the basketball court and wandered around the church to find the trailhead. From where I parked (at the park) to the trail head was .07 miles (said my watch). From there, find the sign and stairs and begin.
The trail starts with stairs that turns into a leaf covered trail. I went shortly after a rainstorm. If you go when it has been wet, be careful as it is slippery. There are three guns on the path; two are easy to see, one is off the path (to the left as you go up the trail). The semi-hidden one is closer to the last gun.
Watch put for wildlife. I made friends with a wild pig while on the short trail. There are bugs and lizards all over also. Trail has a little bit of an incline but the trail is short enough that you can power through it. Trail length from start to apex and back to where I parked...
Read moreJust a warning, the guns are located up a hillside behind a church, it is somewhat difficult to locate unless you know what you were looking for. There is a big sign with information and concrete steps leading up the hillside into the jungle. Well worth stopping by if you are a World War II history fan/appreciator. The short hike is a little treacherous, but there is an expanse of jungle all around including Wildlife. I saw a wild boar walking up the trail with me which was very cool. The guns themselves are interesting to see, and overall the entire visit takes less than 20 minutes. As I said well worth stopping by if you are into that...
