Hello... welcome to Salt Point State Park. A little over 3 miles in and out RT from the parking. Easy hike, hug the coastline is the best. ( fun to walk around and check out the cliffs). It’s feeding your ears and your eyes. This is outstanding place and it’s kind of mix between the rocks and the water. You can see the structure of the sandstones are very different in here. (Honeycomb pattern). About 1.5 miles hiking in, you will see beauty arch rock or stand stone bridge.( fairly unique looking). When you are here, you can hear water hitting the rocks, with heavy... heavy pounding waves, it’s creating a thunder sound like song. Amazing, spectacular, breathtaking, incredible view of the ocean and a lot of wildflowers. This is the GIFT from Mother Nature. I will come back here again and again. Add this place on your list plssssss.
I had been here once. I came back to this park again on (July/2/20). I did not have to pay for parking ticket. I was parking in the street and hiking down. I still remember my first time there, and it happened again, I could not stopped hopping around those sandstones with honeycomb pattern. My legs were dancing, my eyes were so curiously, and my mind can not stop to THANK to Mother Nature for special presents. It is the most spectacular view and memorable place. The little sandstone bridge is fun for everyone to walk back and forth, for free hands rock climbing, and It’s also majestic piece for photography. It was so relaxing and peaceful for me, since there wasn’t enough hikers here today. I definitely will come back to this...

The food lockers will not keep them out without a lock. The raccoons are persistent and quite invasive. They broke one of our coolers. Deer and Grey fox also run the campground. Past the campground is Gerstle Cove and the Visitors center. The visitors was closed for the season. Great tide pools, but you need to do a bit of scrambling on the rocks to get to them. My 4 year old granddaughter was able to climb around with minimal help.
Fishing is permitted north and south of Gerstle Cove. Lots of hiking trails. Took the first trail from the campground to the beach. About .25 mi, nice and quiet. Herd of 5 or 6 deer ran across the trail right in front of me.
Also took the Salt Point Trail to Stump Cove. About 1.2 mi right along the coast. Easy hike with tons of...
Read moreSalt Point is beautiful and wild and one of my favorite places to visit along the Sonoma coast.
There are more people coming here every year because of the how popular mushroom foraging has become as of late, so it's not uncommon to see foraging groups out on the trails between November and April. Once the weather warms up and the forest floors dries, Salt Point is still a beautiful forest to visit and walk around for the day.
The coast line is rugged, and wild and a great place to fish if your looking for that allusive Ling from the shore. Great place for rockfish mostly, although I've seen folks targeting perch. I heard you can get Salmon from shore this far up but i've never tried.
Gerstle Cove campground is a great place to come for a weekend. We stayed here once during February and it was cold but enjoyable. A few raccoons came to visit, but nothing crazy.
Definitely recommend this place for a...
