We visited there on 5/21/16 without any research or information and were just looking to visit a new winery on a rainy day. I would describe this as a quaint 'satellite' California winery set in a Victorian farmhouse... they have a good selection of wines that cater to the most wine enthusiasts, however we focused on the dry reds after finding out they are all California grapes. We love wine and really look for good quality reds... imagine our surprise when we stumbled on Filia!
We were met by Mitch who was engaging and very friendly. We told stories back and forth while he poured and gave us the details for our dry red tasting. The dry reds are not Ohio wines folks... Yes, all Cali grapes, Cali wine, blends most if not all and from the family estate north of Calistoga. All the wines were good or better and we decided to get a bottle of the Isabella and a cheese plate to enjoy the afternoon.
Prices are average. $8 per glass, $25-35 per bottle. Décor is... interesting. Hip antique? Comfortable sitting rooms, outdoor patio area, etc. They can accommodate groups as one came in when we were there. Also, while we were there we noticed some other wine patrons come in with a groupon. So we looked it up and bought ourselves two groupon deals for ourselves to take friends next time.
Yes, I would recommend coming here. Very friendly and great wines of a quality you would not expect...
Read moreI had a group of people scheduled (thru Party-Arty) to Paint and Sip on October 26. Unfortunately, when we arrived (some from Cleveland and North Canton) the winery was closed and a sign hung on the door. The artist, after speaking to the owner, made arrangements to move us to the community center. Not quite the atmosphere we were anticipating. Since were were planning to drink wine (some of us were planning to enjoy the wine maybe more than the painting) and have snacks, we had to find a store to buy wine, other beverages and snacks. We spent much more money at the store than we planned to spend for the evening because we had to buy whole bottles of wine and not by the glass, cups, plates, a wine opener... Needless to say it was a big disappointment where the winery is concerned. We were told that there was a notice on the website that they would be closed but really, once an event is planned who visits the website again and some of my guests did visit to get the address but thought it was closed to just to the public but the planned events would still take place. There were also people in the parking lot for the yoga class and a couple that was expecting to meet and plan their wedding there! Not a good way to do business and I don't plan to go back to try the wine. BTW two of us in the group are professional bar tenders and often refer people to fun places -...
Read moreWe bought a groupon that was supposed to be a wine tasting package for two ($29 value) and we didnt get what we were supposed to. Five 1oz wine tastings each $2.50, cheese tasting $6, and signature glass $6.... $14.50..so if you doubled that would be $29. But only got one of each. I even screen shot what we were supposed to get and showed her and she ignored it and just wanted to redeem the groupon without looking at the details. They weren't busy at all and she never came to check on us. It took us about an hour to get there and we won't make that drive again. When you advertise something and customers drive an hour to get there on a weeknight one should provide what was promised. Poor...
