We loved our stay at the Springbrook State Park. We were a group of 10 Adults and 2 kids, stayed at the Sherburne Cabin. The canbin was very specious and very well equipped for a cabin. Because of the Sherburne Cabin our trip became a huge success and very enjoyable. This cabin is very private and completely in the natural habitate. It was an absolute pleasure to be there. This is an awesome place to relax and be in the nature. We highly recommend Springbrook State Park and specially the Sherburne Cabin, its a must. The cabin rental is very affordable priced ($200 per night for us). Additionally, all staff at park are very helpful and willing to make your stay enjoyable and fun. Specially, Carolyn (State Park Manager) was very helpful, she made sure we get all required info before we get into the cabin (we were checking in after business hours) and did all she could to make our stay fun. Thanks to you all at Springbrook State Park/Sherburne...
Read moreSpringbrook Park is a beautiful setting with lots of trees and trails. The campground is mowed and picked up. The people were friendly, but the camp host was located in a small out of the way loop. He would have been hard to find if you were looking for him. The restrooms and showers needed to be cleaned better. The toilets and sinks looked clean, but the foors needed scrubbed and the cobwebs needed cleaned. They smelled nasty. The lake itself is pretty dirty looking. I saw some people swimming, but there were also "Watch" signs for E-coli. The Conservation Education Center has been closed for over a year now. That was a great facility that served much of western Iowa and helped make this park one of the best state parks in Iowa. Opening the conservation center, cleaning up the lake, and doing a better job cleaning their facilities would make Springbrook deserving of a true 5...
Read moreThis state park has a beautiful lake, with a great perimeter trail stretching it's length. The lake has great kayaking and lots of fish and turtles that are fun to spot. The lack of major cities nearby means that the night sky is very dark, so stargazing by the lake is a must!
I did not try any of their tent campgrounds, as we went with my in-laws and used a camper (which I don't know much about).
There are bathroom facilities and electric sites available for trailers. Rangers were very friendly and informative.
There's also a lot of old cabins which now sit abandoned, slowly being taken back by the forest. It's always fun to explore these old areas of the park, and imagine what it was before nature overtook them. Explore, but please respect the park's property!
Highly recommend this park for anyone wanting to relax back in nature for a few days, and get some...
