Nice place to take a short hike up a little trail to see where the spring comes out of the hill. There are little waterfalls that are great for photography and it's not uncommon to see this area being used for professional pictures of graduating seniors, weddings and engagements. The trail has been made easier to navigate due to an Eagle Scout project and there is now a small gazebo at the trail head. There is also a unisex porta potty located near the parking area. When it warms up big spray is recommended as this cool shaded valley holds alot...

Upon arrival you see a shelter with picnic tables, a portable toilet and a small parking area. You see and feel the cool water flowing above you. A small well kept trail is adjacent to the spring. As I hiked up I was amazed just how Green it was. Trail goes up a little and you see this flows out of the hill. You keep hiking on back side down to the parking area. Although perfect respite for deer I didn't encounter any this visit. In my opinion this is one of the jewels of Iowa. People who take care of this area deserve kudos. Worth...

We were returning from a day trip and wanted a nice place to picnic and stretch our legs. I actually found this little gem on Google Maps! It was beautiful. Of course there will be insects in a quiet, heavily wooded area, but they weren’t bothersome enough to keep us from having a nice picnic and some hiking, too. I’m speaking about a family with ages ranging from about 2years old to close to 70 years old I don’t recall needing to...

Beautiful place. Raw nature. Interesting history. Enter at your own risk. Bring bug spray. Wear shoes that are good in water and clothes that can protect but also get wet/muddy. Bring a walking stick if it could help on a moderately challenging hike. It'd be good to carry any gear/supplies in a backpack or somehow hands free. A waterproof phone case & selfie stick wouldn't hurt :) Hold on to your socks because it's neat!

The stream that runs down the hill is pretty, though the pipe coming from the spring and the concrete box were odd. If you are willing to go off trail you can follow the valley through interesting rock formations. The picnic shelter was good, but the porta-potty was broken so wouldn't lock.
