My nephew and I went to the Mt. Holyoke Summit approximately 2 months ago. We walked from the base all the way to the observation tower. I'm kinda sorta out of shape. We stayed on the asphalt and walked to the top. We only stopped once. A great workout. When we arrived at the observation tower we could see Springfield off in the distance. Springfield is a good 35 miles from the Summit. The fun part was walking down the mountain. Believe me, when you're out if shape, walking down is better than walking up lol. We stayed on the asphalt but there more trails than I can count up to. Next time we go we'll take one of the longer trails. Please wear hiking boots. I purchased my hiking boots from Eastern Mountain Sports. I purchased Oboz in a 10 wide. Very comfortable hiking boots. Also, purchase wool socks...they keep your feet dryer than cotten socks. Take care and...
Read moreFound this by accident when I was on one of my bicycle club. There is no way I could ride my bike up the mountain. There was a lot of information about the old hotel inside. There was great views all around the building. There are restrooms available and lots of picnic tables for you to enjoy all the views. You just need to bring the food and drink. Also don't forget the camera. To park at the top the parking is $10.00 and there isn't a lot of parking available about about 10 to 12 parking spaces at the very top, but one tier below there is about another 15 to 18. If you don't want to pay or just want to hike up the many trails you can park lower down the mountain. If you want to ride your bicycle up hope you have great legs and strong lungs. But be for warned the road is just big...
Read moreWhile driving North on Route 91, we noticed this building on the summit of a nearby mountain, it took us a while to find it and we had to park at base of the mountain. It was part of Skinner State Park, we had to hike up to the Summit House and it was delightful journey with surprises all over. From ice flows, to a memorial for the crew of a WWII bomber from the nearby military airbase that crashed into the mountain in the fog, the Summit House offered panoramic view of the Connecticut River Valley, the Ox Bow in the river as well as the towns of Northampton and Hadley below. This was a delightful place that we have come back to enjoy multiple times and hope you'll have the same feelings as we...
