Whenever I go camping I always head to the U.P. and Ottawa National Forest is my favorite area. What's batter then hiking in the forest and camping in a beautiful area. I've seen a bear 1 time he crossed the road headed towards where I was going and we possibly had a few miles between us but for all the times I've been up there I've never felt like it was any more of an issue then normal amounts. Camp sites are very primitive from what I've experienced. I'm sure there are RV friendly sites but I stick to back country out of a backpack. There's a casino in Watersmeet, I've never been in it. It's there though. Lovely place would definitely recommend, nature is the best...

As I traveling nomad, my passion for nature began in the great Ottawa National Forest. Growning up I would always spend several weeks camping throughout the summer, going to lakes to swim or fish, and go on hikes. I, along with many other nomads, believe Upper Michigan is one of the most beautiful places in the country to visit during the summer! Coming back to visit family can also be hard as there isn't many free campgrounds throughout the peninsula but a ranger informed me about dispersed camping which opened a world of possibilities up here especially! Check out my YouTube channel for videos showing the area as well as discussing some of the...

Drove through this region and around. Very beautiful forest, absolutely loved it and the small but beautiful mountain ranges. Very remote and pretty slice of forested Americana not too different looking than in. New England states like New Hampshire, though a little more flat. The nearby Lake in the Clouds is also an amazing site and are some legit mountains next to Lake Superior and quite a view. The porcupine mountains where they are a legit mountain range and very beautiful.

Overall loved our little weekend trip up here and definitely recommend all the lakes and hiking areas and pretty forest...

My family had a cabin here, along the Ontonagon river. I don't remember much of it I was only a toddler when I visited. But the rest of my family has deep ties to the area. My grandparents used to live in White Pine and we'd come and stay in the cabin for fishing or for nature. But the state had us burn down all of our precious memories. But all that did was remove a reason for us to go outdoors. Anyways I miss my childhood and I hope whoever visits the forest make amazing memories like I did.

This place is heaven. All the diverse wild life, from deer, turkey, wolves, grouse, moose, bears, huge eagles. Fishing is unbelievable. Rough country, not for weak people. Your in the middle of no where. Must be armed for personal safety.
