Whenever I go camping I always head to the U.P. and Ottawa National Forest is my favorite area. What's batter then hiking in the forest and camping in a beautiful area. I've seen a bear 1 time he crossed the road headed towards where I was going and we possibly had a few miles between us but for all the times I've been up there I've never felt like it was any more of an issue then normal amounts. Camp sites are very primitive from what I've experienced. I'm sure there are RV friendly sites but I stick to back country out of a backpack. There's a casino in Watersmeet, I've never been in it. Growning up I would always spend several weeks camping throughout the summer, going to lakes to swim or fish, and go on hikes. Read moreDrove through this region and around. Very beautiful forest, absolutely loved it and the small but beautiful mountain ranges. Very remote and pretty slice of forested Americana not too different looking than in. New England states like New Hampshire, though a little more flat. The nearby Lake in the Clouds is also an amazing site and are some legit mountains next to Lake Superior and quite a view. The porcupine mountains where they are a legit mountain range and very beautiful.
Overall loved our little weekend trip up here and definitely recommend all the lakes and hiking areas and pretty forest...
