Atlanta Hiking – Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail 🥾🌄

Atlanta Hiking – Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail 🥾🌄

I did the table rock hike and was largely satisfied. The trail is mostly clear, only a few recently fallen trees in the way but they were easily mantled or walked around. A good mix of ascent and descent made it challenging enough for an out of shape novice like me without being truly difficult or requiring any special gear (beyond decent shoes or boots and a hat) or training. An excellent beginner level hike, though there are some stretches where if you don't mind your footing you could trip or roll your ankle so some mindfulness is required as with all trails.

This is an offshoot of the Appalachian Trail that leads down to Camp Hebron. The trail has a few steep parts that involve a little bit of harder climbing. When the trail hits the Appalachian Trail go right to get to Table Rock (its not far maybe a 10th of a mile) overlook or right to get to a shelter (about a mile). There is a shelter on the trail leading down to the camp but it has no water or outhouse. Last time I went past that shelter it looked like it was in pretty bad need of repair too.

This parking area and access to AT has improved greatly over the years. This spot gets filled up fairly fast so if your doing a point to point with a group try and do the commuter thing at this spot. Overlook shown in pictures is great look at Clarks valley on eastern side of Peters Mtn. If your headed north on AT is a good 10 miles before hitting Rt. 325 so pack plenty of water. If your headed South towards Duncannon make sure to be wearing hearty footwear as it "gets a little bumpy" but views of Susquehanna...
