Was there just today, after a light snow. For some reason I was thinking this was on the official WV waterfall trail, lol guess not, it's just a side falls visit. Forest road gradually sucks after the first wide parking spot. It's an obvious area, for 3-5 vehicles if parked correctly. No signage, but you'll know it when you see it. Best spot for parking, but there are a few more wide areas on up the road. 4x4 is a must up to the culvert, you cannot take a car or anything else save maybe an atv across the washed out culvert itself. Otherwise large rocks, dips, holes, you name it, it needs gravel and graded heavily. There is a short trail from parking spot down to a creek meadow. Just an area to explore, as I tried to follow the creek but gave up. Several bear dogs in the area, it was bear dog day, plus hunters. Initially after walking the road again, and the worst parts of it you will come to a trail sign for Allegheny trail with large sign map - continue straight past it to reach the short, steep hike to the upper falls, it is signed. Canyon view is on up the road but you can't see the water at all. According to Google maps the road trail goes down into the canyon, so maybe that's where better viewing and more access is but I didn't have time for that today. Didn't see a campsite anywhere. The top trail gets you right to the falls, but not anywhere near touching them. I cannot speak for the other side of forest road's condition, if there is better driving access. 5 miles from Douglas.

Drove Forest Road 18 until we couldn't anymore (we do have a 4x4), parked and walked to the campsite. Just for reference the majority of Forest Road 18 is gravel, but it does turn into a very rough dirt/rock road. The trail down to the falls is on the right a little ways after the campsite and is marked with a post, but if we weren't really looking for it we probably would have missed it. The "trail" down is narrow. We were there after a freak 20inch snow fall so although the snow had melted it was very muddy. There are 2-3 "trails" down to the falls. We did 2 of them. One that cuts to the upper part of the falls and the other that cuts to a lower selection. The falls are beautiful! I definitely would recommend if you're looking for something a little off the beaten path. I think we saw one other person the whole time we were there.

A little bit difficult, but enjoyable, to get to. Worth it! The road going in states that it's not suitable for passenger cars. We have a Jeep Wrangler and were able to traverse the road without engaging 4WD, even through the stream crossing, but I wouldn't attempt that in a regular car. The road is rocky. If you're alone in your 4WD, I wouldn't attempt to take the road all the way through. There's a sketchy area that we didn't want to attempt without someone to possibly pull us out, if we had needed it.
