Gorgeous place, very clean. Most fellow campers were families. Tons of RVs. We were in the Lower Campground. There were a few loud talkers camping near us who stayed up past 11 pm, but that only bothered me bc my kid was afraid. They were actually not too bad, just had a few drinks and said a few bad words, but I was this close to going over and speaking with them because my guy was scared. Near the trail there is a play area with this (octagonal?) ball pit for gaga ball. There is also a kind of field and something else (I can't remember)...but not swings or slides or anything. Just a place to gather. Metal ring firepits for building campfires. Bathrooms had running water and showers were across the hall. There are handicapped combination bathroom plus showers. There are 4 or so parking spots in front of the big bathrooms. There are also vending machines there for drinks, snacks, and ice cream bars. Down a bit from the bathroom parking is a water spigot for dishwashing and I guess dousing water. The well water in the bathrooms smells okay, but we brought water. They restocked the bathrooms often and they were pretty clean with working toilets and sinks! Lots of doggos. There is a visitor guide in an RV in the upper area. The bathrooms are lot but there are dark spots. Have a light for the walk. Phones had decent service. A little spotty. I had two Zoom meetings. For the second one I had my student call me on my phone for the audio so I used less bandwidth and I kept my signal so long as I stayed up at the ice/wood station. I can't remember the voltage situation. We had no problems but also had a tent and no big appliances. Curiously few bugs or critters. But then, it was a very crowded Labor Day weekend. Pics are from 2021 and 2023. Bishop Lake area.

Yurt Review! - We camp at Brighton Rec Area a few times a year because we love it so much. With it getting chilly we decided to rent the Hilltop Hurt for a weekend. It was awesome! It was extremely clean, well-maintained and there was a ton of room inside. The heater was very hot to the touch, so be careful around that, but it kept us super toasty all weekend. Vault toilet was very clean and well-maintained. The surrounding woods were perfect for my 6 year old (frankly all of us) to explore. I think we spent all of Saturday outside in the woods. The yurt is in walking distance to two hiking trails - one that's 2 miles long, the other is 5 miles. We trekked the 2 mile trail and it was beautiful! We were unable to get wood from the check-in station so we gathered fallen trees and brush from around us to burn in the fire pit outside; it worked out wonderfully. One quirky thing that happened all weekend was we would get random people driving up to the hill to check the yurt out. We met a lot of nice people though, so as long as you don't mind the occasional visitor to see the yurt, it's seriously perfect for off season camping! It's on our list for places to come back to! Try the yurt, you'll love it!

Not a bad place, not a great place either; I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. The best feature of the this park has to be the hiking. There are many nice trails that are small and large and some that are open or out in the woods. The trails are good for biking as well. The camping is another strong attribute to this place. There are two campgrounds right in the area; one being a little bit more spacious than the other. From what I was researching, there is a rustic campround in the area as well, but when I went to visit, it was closed. The roads leading into the park can get quite rough. I ran into a massive pot hole and I'm thankful to have not gotten a flat tire. The Beach area is quite underwhelming as well. Both the beach and swimming area is very small. Also, from what I observed, none of the campsites are located on the beachfront. So driving to the beach may be your best bet. Overall, not the best recreational area for swimming. Hiking and biking seem to be this park's strong suit.

My entire family has loved this place for 20 some years, and I just had to reply to the lady complaining about the bats in Cabin #3. It is our absolute favorite! The bats, were not in the cabin, they roosted in the chimney outside of the cabin. They roosted peacefully there for many year's. We thrilled at being able to sit on the picnic table and watch them take flight at sunset. It was awe inspiring to see nature at it's finest! They have long sence put up bat houses around the property so the bats are no longer in the chiminy. Also, if you camp rustic, as she did by renting a rustic cabin, it may behoove ones self to pack for a rustic trip. You can and should, purchase some or all of these items for a successfull, happy trip. Lanterns Headlamps Batteries They have also put in solar panels for a light. I love this place and if your friendly and not griping about everything under the sun, or the moon in this case I guess, the people who work there are helpful and friendly too. Just saying, sometimes it is just what you make of it! If she tried it again with the right equipment i'll bet you she would have a much better time! We highly recommend it! My youngest daughter was even married on the big dock at sunset and it was amazing and all lit up with candles! Halloween is great too. October has weekend camping with tons of stuff for the kids to do including trick or treating and a big monster mash dance to end the last evening. They're awesome and they also have a very large Modern, two...

I had an amazing time tent camping here and at the beach. I camping in 2 different camping area due to booking the night before. One in the rustic area which I overall liked better. It is a very easy walk to the beach even being a single mother of 2 toddlers (I used the stroller to carry beach things). Rustic area did occasionally smell of the outhouse but only really after the door was opened and I was a few sites away. Pump you did have to pump but it was easy. Lots of room for plenty of tents and not even coming close to hearing neighbors talk at your fire, but close enough to borrow bug spray (the very natural brand I tried was not working). The other site well... It was much smaller, I liked my site because it was only a walk down the stairs to the bathroom with running water and shower (didn't use the shower). Lots of rv not a lot of tent people but I was not alone. Narrow roads and lots of kids (both which I like). Could walk to the beach still but a bit far for those with young kids. Workers where very nice and friendly.

Big complaint was the firewood. It had rained about 1 day before I came and I guess the firewood I bought was left out in it... I managed to start fires but there was bubbling and the wood got black before it really lit. I was very greatful I had afire starter. Not sure what I will do next time as transportation of wood is not good but it also really sucks to try to...
