I've been bringing my daughter here for over 10 yrs now. Starting at 4 yrs old to 14, and the staff have engaged her in a fashion that brings her right back to the Era they portray...18th century farm life. They teach how to farm, what they did, how they cooked, made things in the blacksmith to how they cured foods. It is a living museum that teaches...it is not an entertainment spot like Kalahari. This place is designed to give education to young and old and they flourish for decades doing such. Every season is another learning experience and they offer kids to come in and learn and be interpreters! Talk about the ultimate cosplaying experience. If you are into interpretation and educational spots for your family, adult or otherwise, I'd recommend this place as highly as gettysburg and colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Also they have always stuck by covid 19 standards, and requirements. We visited in 2020 and again this year, and they were and always have been beyond up to safety regulations per cdc and p.a. state law. They work with the public...they are required to. The reviewer claiming a girl was coughing and should have worn a mask needs to stay in New York city. They clearly can't handle life outside of...
Read moreThis review is specifically in regard to their preschool program geared towards kids ages 2-5. This preschool is far too rigid in its policies. With young kids, unexpected things—like illness—are inevitable, so having the option to make up a class would make a huge difference. I recently learned they allow refunds only if you cancel at least three weeks before the start of the program. Since I registered 2.5 weeks before it began, that policy wouldn’t have applied to me even if I had known about it in advance.
Unfortunately, both times we registered (in the spring and again this fall), my children became sick before the program started. In the spring, it took significant effort to arrange a make-up class, and now we are facing the same issue again, but they will not make accommodations. It’s disappointing to have invested in this program twice and still run into the same problem— having to fight over something so basic.
The program itself is great for kids not yet in school, but families should be aware that exceptions are not made under any circumstances unless you really fight for it, so please keep that in mind. Because of their inflexible approach, I will not be registering my...
Read moreWhat a fabulous day! The staff couldn’t have been nicer. They were very knowledgeable and thorough. The tour consists of a general introduction to the history of the museum and is followed by up to 4 guided tours through the different buildings on the property (timed so that you can attend them one after another if you wish), as well as a self guided tour through the grounds, where you can see livestock, outbuildings, a covered bridge, and a nature trail through a wooded area. The introduction is given in the third person, and the guided building tours are all given in the first person (where the interpreters play historical characters). The staff all did an exceptional job and were extremely kind and polite. We were happy to support them, and we hope this review will encourage others to visit. Please note that you have to consume food and drink in a designated area in order to protect the livestock and the historical buildings and artifacts, but the food pavilion is nicely shaded with plenty of tables and chairs. If you are looking for an enjoyable activity for a partial day, we strongly encourage you to visit Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. It’s...
