This park is a great place to put in or even take out your kayak, canoe or tube. Upstream are two places to put in (Penny Pot and the blueberry farms) and downstream several to take out(Winding River Campground, Acagisca Girl Scout Camp, Lake Lenape Park). The river area is shallow and easily accessible with port-a-potties and picnic tables and areas for grilling. The river is a fairly easy paddle and is maintained (but I'm not sure by whom) meaning obstacles (fallen trees) are generally removed. It is a popular place and can get busy on weekends and holidays. Get your $5 launch permit and parking permit from the boat house at Lenape Park. The hours are 7:30 am until 30 minutes...
Read moreI finally had the chance to check out this area. I first stumbled across it several years ago, but never had a chance to stop until now. Really beautiful area. Very scenic. Definitely cool to see the old buildings. Please do not climb on the ruins. I spent 45 mintues here & only saw half the park. Will have to come back again for all seasons. Water was very low, didn't get much rain over the summer. Even with the water being low the current is strong. I can see why they don't want people swimming here. Even a strong swimmer would get swept under. Against the banks the water has carved out the sediment, creating deep holes. No swimming here,...
Read moreThis is a nice little park along the river, with picnic tables. We paid $5 for a seasonal river access parking permit, and used this spot to launch our kayaks. The current was fast, so this is a one way kayak- you will need a ride back to your car (but Uber/lyfts are available). We used our Oru kayaks and paddled to Lake Lenape West, but the Lake portion was the least enjoyable, because of the headwind.
There are portapotties here but no drinking water, so fill your water bottles...
