Nice park to take younger kids to. Our grandsons liked "exploring" the woods which border the park. Well maintained and as of 10/2016 they appear to be replacing metal play structure with plastic. The grass areas are ample and well maintained.
I have to say that the park is sorely lacking in seating. There is one bench near the play structures on both the east and west sides of the park. There are picnic tables under gazebo covers but those are quite a distance from the play area. I would suggest if you are going there to watch your kids play, be sure to bring some type of folding chair to sit in unless you are okay with standing and watching them play. The single bench on the west side of the road near the play structure has had the soil beneath it eroded over time. Sitting on the bench, your legs dangle and it becomes very uncomfortable after only a few minutes.
The provided barbecue grills are rather inadequate if you are going to have a reasonable size gathering. You may want to consider bringing your own portable grill to compliment the park installed grill.
Overall a nice park but the amenities that could make it a wonderful park are missing. A little planning could have...
Read moreI used to like this park mainly because of all of the shelters and the ability to find privacy. Now they wont allow you to drive to the back anymore which was my favorite place in the park. There is no notification of this anywhere. The workers re pitiful and lazy. In early spring of 2016 there was a break in the weather so I decided to go to the park to get outside and relax. It was around noon and I drove to the back and set up a hammock to relax. I napped for aprox. an hour. On my way out they had locked the gate shut. They didn't even tell me this was going to happen and I was very visible. It took me around 2 hours to get ahold of somebody and another hour for them to come and unlock the gate for me. When I called the next day they told me they aren't letting anybody back there. It is a nice park but poorly managed, the workers are rude and they are giving access to less every day. I stopped going to this park in the spring of 2016. I have noticed over the last 20 years that the places to gather are fewer every day. It's like they don't want people to gather or assemble anymore which is our 1st...
Read moreI have been coming to Millikin Woods since I was a kid. It is amazing to see how much the park has changed. When I was a kid the entrance to the park by car was from Ross Ave.. We lived close to the park so when I was very young I would ride my bike through the trails in the woods at the park. In the early 80's the park consisted only of shelters and BBQ pits for cookouts. We regularly came to the park to hangout at the shelters. I was disappointed when I read in the paper that they were going to put a road through the park, I thought it would be bad for the animals to have their home disturbed. I use the new road through the park several times a day. Instead of taking away from the park like I thought it would it actually has helped make people more aware of the park. The City of Hamilton has done a great job at making the park more appealing, dead trees and honeysuckle has been removed. The park has two playgrounds, one on each side of the road. A splash pad and a Frisbee golf course has also been added. I see the park used more now than it ever was used...
