My family has camped here for quite a few years, it is a great lake for boating however the water is cold and some people may not enjoy that me included. If you are into ohv four wheeler or dirt bike riding there are a few approved trails in the area but many of these could prove difficult for the beginner rider based on the steep and rocky terrain. Dirt bikes and trail bikes present a challenge, four wheelers may feel right at home and side by sides may be a little too wide for alot of them as well.

Nice quiet, campground, and clean. Unlimited outdoor activities in the area and on the lake. The Wild Game Inn is 1 mile away where you can stay in the quaint cabins on a Trout Creek, and they serve homemade ice cream with a restaurant.

I didn't get to enjoy the beautifully painted rocks! There was too much snow and ice. But it was just as stunning as I anticipated it would be that day! This place is an absolute photographer's dream!

I had occasion to stay in the Painted Rocks Campground recently. The campground is in a beautiful setting and well kept and the lake is an attractive background, but I cannot recommend that anyone stay here.

The vault toilets are clean and well kept, but placed far from the campsites and not convenient at all. The campground is not designed well at all.

The most disturbing aspect of this campground is that locals are allowed to joy ride around the campground on 4 wheelers disturbing the (paying) campers and generally destroying the peace and quiet. There were 5 older people who rode through the camping area multiple times while yelling at my party. They were not staying there or visiting anyone, as my party (5 camp sites) were the only ones there at the time. The most obnoxious one was a morbidly obese woman riding with them who yelled at us multiple times asking for food.

The next time I am in the area, I will opt to stay...

One of my top 10 favorite spots in Montana. The lake is lovely. The mountains are gorgeous. The campground is great. Kelley and Gary are possibly the best camp hosts I have ever met. They run a clean and convenient campground and try to ensure that everyone has a great visit. They are friendly and helpful. And since they are locals they have a ton of info about the surrounding area. Even though the campground was almost full when we were there, it didn't feel crowded. The day use folks showed up to boat and swim, and it still didn't feel crazy. Lots of kids and dogs and folks having fun in the Montana sun. And I love, love, love that there is no...

Painted rocks is an on the beaten path state park with multiple campsites and multiple camping spots within every campsite. During the month of september on october, it is a mud haven for those adventurous enough to play in mud. Of course, during the earlier months of the year, it is a wonderfully beautiful Lake and wonderful atmosphere. The areas nearby include hot springs, resorts, and different places to play with tons of boat ramps. Is the fishing is wonderful in the atmosphere is always great. The camp spots are always clean. There's multiple bathroom locations. The campfires Is and surrounding areas are...
