We took the trail from the Gunpowder Falls Trailhead parking. This was more advanced than a typical well-worn hiking trail. We climbed a lot of rocks and walked along the edge of the embankment in many places. Some parts went through narrow thickets, following the path of the river. It was beautiful! But me and my children loved it! We made it to the reservoir and the dam which had a lovely view from the bottom and the top. Big staircase to climb. Overall it was a lot of fun and very satisfying as a challenge but doable. We were with friends who had kids as young as 4. About 1.7 miles one way. Many people fish by the lakes too. It also offers people over 200 stairs for training. There are picnic tables at the boat ducking area. The parking is limited.
