We stayed 1 weekday night at Beeds Lake State Park in a camper van on April 18, 2024, the fourth day after it opened with the water turned on. The campground was over 90% empty as expected and we did not make a reservation for the off-season. Several areas of the campground were closed along with only one bathroom facility out of 3 was open. There was a nice block bath house with clean flush toilets and strong showers. Sites were generally flat & most were not shaded. For groups traveling together, there are many sites in the center very close together designed for people wishing to share campsites with other parties. These would not be ideal for single units traveling alone. But there are a large number of sites spread futher apart along the perimeter for solo travelers. There is a scenic walking trail around the lake with a nice waterfall provided by a former mill. A few benches, which made it very nice to sit for a while to watch the wildlife. We saw signs of beavers along the lake but never saw the animals. Good fishing from shore or with a boat. The camp host was helpful and very nice.
The only negative was the state was not fully prepared to be open for business. The web site showed a discounted rate for off-peak season. But when you arrive, there was a sign posted giving only the peak season rate. This caused campers confusion over the rate to pay with the self pay envelope. In talking to other campers, people were paying all different rates given the confusion over the web site versus the peak season rate posted. It should be a simple matter to post rates for different seasons and not expect visitors to figure it out for themselves.
Overall, we would rate this...
Read moreNice laid back spot! We reserved two camping spots for a group of six, could've probably fit into 1 spot but the extra space was nice! Private shower rooms and bathroom onsite, each campsite has a fire pit and grill combo, atleast one picknick table, plenty of trees surrounding the park area and a solid breeze.
Mostly rocky shore near the camping area with a gradual decline into the lake unless you go in around the little peninsula then it's a pretty sudden drop off. There is a hiking trail around the entire lake with a bridge that goes over part of the lake. Didn't do enough fishing to get a real feel for the lake...
Read moreThe place was kinda isolated. Had to wander all around the lake to find out the spillway. The Google map took us to the middle of the lake. Just walk through the beeds lake drive across the two lakes it's fun. Then you can park your vehicle by the sign of spillway and make a very short walk to it. Don't forget to get down for the spillway it gives a nicer view. We almost missed it cz we didn't see any trail down there first. Plenty of bugs near the water way even for a 2mins stop by. Very nice and calm place where the maintenance is needed. A campground was there too. Good only if you...
