A beautiful park. Manicured fields for playing sprawl out from the main parking lot and ranger station. 4 picnic shelters can be booked through the ranger. We visited 2 piers that jut out into beautiful Lake Warren. Lake Warren is a blackwater lake so swimming is not allowed. If you've never seen a blackwater lake I highly recommend a visit here. Ranger is in office from 1100-1200 daily. Several trails for all ages groups. The interpretative trail has many signs about lifecycles and indigenous plants. Nature trail is a short, relatively easy hike. Both have large amounts of roots so be advised of trip hazards and uneven walking. Unfortunately for us bridges on the ends of the interpretative and nature trails were insufficient for the amount of water. The interpretative trail was almost completely blocked but we have received a ton of rain recently. The lily pond overlook is missing some boards and the older part is getting soft. On the flip side, this park is a 10 out of 5 for smell. I don't know if it's the sweet gum trees or the lilies but the entire park smelled wonderful. In our book the park loses half a star for upkeep of bridges and overlook. The park is beautiful and the ranger friendly and helpful. We'll be back and we'll be...
Read moreA nice little park. The lake is perfect for a small jon boat, or you can fish from the bank. Several fishing docks/piers, the landings, the bridges, and the riprap dam allow plenty of access for fishing without a boat. There is a HP restriction of less than 10 HP for outboards. However, a trolling motor is really all you need. Although they’re a little shallow, the landings on each end of the lake are paved and more than adequate for small boats. I’ve found the fishing to be hit or miss. The lake is fairly shallow and full of wood. This makes fish tough to locate sometimes. SCDNR has pretty much eradicated all the vegetation in the lake with spraying and grass carp except for right around the bank. There is a good population of bream, crappie, bass, and catfish in the lake. However, you can tear them up one day and strike out the next. Surprisingly the park does not have any camping areas. However, it still makes a good location...
Read moreLake Warren State Park is a great smaller lowcountry SC lake park. It offers freshwater fishing with boat rental options that have electric trolling motors. The are also 2 fishing piers and a couple of trials to go hiking. There is a small park office with gift shop as well. If you do the Park Passport stamps I reccomend using the stamp in the park office verses the one that is at the information kiosk as the one at the information kiosk can be difficult to access. The park staff here as with most SC state parks are exceptionally helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit if you are looking for...
