Had the fantastic and rare opportunity to climb the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse today. Sooo different from other lighthouses I’ve visited. Check out the steps! I don’t quite understand how they built them. The hourglass looking device is the LED bulb inside the Fresnel lens. Wow. You should zoom in on the B&W photo. That’s Old Point Comfort lighthouse “back in the day.” You can see Ft Monroe’s wall and cannon ports to the right. Not sure how the builders planned to miss the lighthouse if they ever had to fire from those ports. Thanks to USCG and Fort Monroe Authority staff for making lighthouse...

Historic site surrounded by even more historic sites. The lighthouse, the fort, the Chamberlin, and all the historic defensive positions make this a great place to walk through time and history. But, the historic buildings and houses are still there and well kept. There are fishing piers that are open to the public also. Overall, an interesting and entertaining...

This is a beautiful old historic lighthouse along the bay at Fort Monroe.

You’ll find it easily on a walking tour and plenty of parking is nearby.

It’s not open to the public and the light keeper house next door is also now private and not open to the public.

This light was built in 1802 and is listed as the oldest building on Ft Monroe today.

It’s in a beautifully maintained state of decay and still functions as a navigational light at night to this day.

Lovely. If you’re already here...
