My family was looking for someplace that had camping, hiking, canoeing, and swimming, and this place checked all the boxes. Having said that, it is a bit limited. The pond for canoeing is quite small, and the swimming area is VERY small. Hiking trails are plentiful, but hit or miss. Some are great, and others are more like roads which a car can drive on. The facilities are excellent: modern, clean, well maintained bathroom, shower, and dishwashing facilities; numerous water sources near campsites, and excellent large metal "bear boxes” to safely store food on the campsites. The sites seem more spacious than normal, because during the pandemic many sites are being intentionally left vacant. Overall, I feel like MA DCR has done the best job possible making this a worthwhile place to visit. It's not really a wilderness experience, but for what my family calls "car camping” it's fine.

The Pittsfield State Forest, near the Lulu trailhead—a playground for outdoor enthusiasts and their canine companions. With a multitude of hiking trails, it's a place where every path seems to whisper, "Explore me." While some trails show the wear and tear of nature's forces, they remain navigable for those with a sense of adventure. The absence of trash barrels serves as a subtle reminder to tread lightly and respect the land. It's not just a haven for hikers and their four-legged friends; mountain bikers will find the terrain equally inviting. With slopes that offer just the right blend of challenge and exhilaration, it's a spot where rubber meets dirt in the most satisfying way. All in all, it's a place that offers a little bit of rugged paradise for everyone.

Beautiful views, great trails, pretty waterfalls, good camping sites, nice "comfort faclities" (bathrooms) but the road itself is full of potholes. Daniels Brook Chasm, Hawthorne Falls, Parker Brook Cascade are three smaller waterfalls in addition to Lulu Falls. There are 40 camping sites. The most scenic are atop Berry Mountain (downside is primative facilities) camping at the base of the mountain has easy access to the modern comfort station that has men, women, and family bathrooms. Berry Pond, atop Berry mountain, is said to be one of the highest natural water bodies in Massachusetts.

Okay so. I’ve gone camping here for all of my life. It’s great. If you want to use a Ouija board here it might not work though. Tried it. But like that’s okay because ghosts are pretty weird, man. Oh. And that canping spot just to the right of the wntrance to that big field, I think it’s called Russel Field, near that field used for parties and such? Don’t touch it. Don’t do it. That’s MY spot. But like you can. Just please take it into great consideration that my feelings will not be positive. 12/10 would eat cake in a tent here again.

OH AND ALSO at some point in the Spring time, go up near the pond at the top. You’ll see toads doing it, but like, grab yaself some toad babies (eggs) and watch them grow in a fish tank or something. Minus the fish. They will in fact eat the toad babies. Another thing: if you get tired of cleaning the tank, get snails so eat the algae. Otherwise don’t bother with a filter. And if the few dead polywog bodies bother you, get a crayfish to eat them. If you use the snail idea with more than one snail, bu the way, you WILL wake up one morning to see dots on the walls of the tank. Those are snail eggs, awaiting to split open and show you some cool snail babies. They’ll eat more algae. It’s great.

If you go canping with ya buddy, who happens to be terrified of the outdoors, just know that here are some loving things you can do to mess with them:

if you’re walking along the road to the restrooms at night, gasp loudly every now and then, pointing your flashlight into the woods on either side of the road. You might, just MIGHT, see a pair of glowing eyes. Don’t be scared thogh; they’ll leave you be.

pick up a daddy long leg and put it on them when they aren’t looking. Daddy long legs, although a close relative to the spider, are not spiders. In fact, they won’t harm you at all. They’ll run away. Really fast. So like, grab them as fast as you can. Do ittt.

in the same situation, grab some rocks beforehand and put them in your pocket. Every now and then, throw one into the forest without being seen, and then be like WHAT WAS THAT. If you keep doing this as you walk, it’ll seem like something is following you in the woods. Mean, but funny.

Anyway, that’s pretty much it. Great place to hike and camp. It’s...

This place is awesome! There are definitely better parks out there to see, but for this area, itis great! It doesn't have a lot of traffic. It's a great place for camping, hiking, and mountain biking. Dog friendly, no breed restrictions! There are easier trails for the beginner hiker, including a relatively flat paved trail, and more challenging ones for more experienced which climb the mountain. Same goes for the mountain biking. There is camping available here, and the sites are great! They are fairly level, some are covered in pea stone, others are more organic with your natural rocks and roots. Larger RVs will have very limited availability. But smaller RVs around 22ft and smaller shouldn't have an issue on some of the sites. Sites 26-31 is best suited for RVs, and it is in a big open grass field. You'll find fire rings, and bear boxes at every site. Some bear boxes are fussy to get closed due to lack of lubricant. Bathrooms are pretty clean, and there are free hot showers. No timed showers, here! Works like home, turn it on, and enjoy! A few spots here have a river running right next to the sites. There is a very small pond which has a swimming beach, and I emphasize small. Good enough to cool at in. Up top of the mountain (you can drive up, if desired), has a great view for sunsets overlooking into NY state. Berry Pond is located up there, which allows for kayaking and fishing. Not trout, but you will find bass. A few picnic tables are set up there to have a lunch at with family.

A few miles down the road, and you will be downtown Pittsfield, offering any necessities...

I enjoyed my reservation as I was homeless with my kids due to the holiday we stayed a total of a month but after we left I gave the tent to my bf and his friend there stay started Tuesday and that night my drunk mother in law attacked me bf and his friends site hit the fire pit almost ruined the tent and physically attacked his friends site hit all DCR did was call state police and it took over 40 mins to arrive on scene and then they only cares about me and the kids vacating the area then there were several other issues and complaints so I was going to give them another week till the ranger shows up wake them up and says you’ve been there two weeks get out and don’t come back, not for nothing they wernt there two weeks and the office should fact check before kicking pole out and if anyone should have been kicked out it should have been the drunk Karen’s that caused physical damage to our site due to alcohol but I also paid a total of 620$ plus firewood about to be 740$ to be legally homeless which is crazy.

The shower pressure sucks and it takes forever to get warm, saw ppl shooting up inthe bathrooms the baby changing table never gets cleaned by park staff so bring cleaning wipes the hand dryers work...
