Yep...very nice as they say (trails review).
Visited Mar 2023. Got there about 7:30am on a Tue. First car. I parked in the lot at the dam. Search on Pleasant Hill Dam. I started on the right with the Lyons Falls trail. With this and pretty much all the trails, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't really muddy. When I hiked Blackhand Gorge I thought I was gonna need a snorkel in a few spots. But Mohican was nice. I only slipped once. Looked down...saw that someone else had slipped...thought I'd better be careful...and then proceeded to slip anyway.
It had rained the day/night before, and both falls were in action. Nothing huge but still pretty. I don't have any past trips for comparison. I suspect they may dry up a lot without rain.
I emerged by the river and headed to the covered bridge. I wanted to hike Hog Hollow but it was closed for some type of work apparently. Bummer. I crossed the street and there was a steep-looking trail that I forget the name of, and I can't see it on the map I have. Maybe it's called "Hidden Trail" ;) I liked this one a lot...a good little challenge. Also managed to catch four deer when I hit the top and started back down toward the campground. I was beginning to wonder where they were. Unlike Blackhand, it was pretty sparse here deer-wise.
Given the day of the week and time of year, it was also lacking in people. I saw ONE dude. I was tempted to question him as to why he was in MY park, but decided against it.
The trail signs are perfecto. Very helpful. I also had good cell coverage throughout (T-Mobile) but didn't need it. The only nit-pick is that the painted tree markers they use are all white...regardless of the trail. So you have these great SIGNS which show nice trail colors for each, and then ya just use white paint on the trees for ALL of them? Boo. But whatever...it wasn't an issue.
One characteristic that I found here...everyone and their uncle apparently likes to carve into the trees. And the rocks. I'm guessing if any deer get trusting enough then someone is going to carve their name into them too. Come on...
Read moreAMAZING family vacation! I don't even want to share this place with anyone for fear I wont ever get a cabin again!! Delima: So you cant get your loved ones to go camping...Imagine with me...You walk into a hotel room, complete with tiled floors, comfortable beds, tiled walk in shower, fully updated kitchen, big tv w/cable, gas fireplace.(The works!) Then you spot a set of double doors...where does that go...you open them up...what is that noise...you walk into a screened in porch. The smell is crisp, clean...you hear the faint sound of a river. Water is gently cascading over rocks, calming...peaceful. Oh look, there it is, about 30 feet away. You walk out of the porch, past your own fire ring that you can see you and your family cooking hot dogs, burgers, and smores.(yes, burgers! There is a swivel arm grate you can grill over the fire!) You are at the river, you kick your shoes off and roll your pants up to your knees and step in. The water is chilly at first, but crystal clear, you walk out to the middle of the river and look around...peaceful...your loved one looks at you from the hotel room with a big smile on there face...welcome...
Read moreWe stayed at the Mohican Adventures campsite. It was very nice. There are multiple cabins you can stay at, as well as RV sites, tent sites with electricity out in the open or you can go more primitive and have sites up in the woods where you need four wheel drive to get up to. That is where we stayed. But there was also a bathroom with a light that stayed on all the time on the exterior so you could find your way to it. They were two stalls that had running water and flushing toilets and we're very clean and taken care of. Plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. The light came on automatically once you entered the bathroom. Would definitely recommend staying there again. There's also a 7 Mile and 15 Mile river tour you can take right across the street, also part of Mohican Adventures. They also have go-karts, ropes course, and Putt-Putt there. We have done the 7 Mile river trip three times this year and the 15 Mile river trip once. If you take the 7 Mile trip, there are multiple places you pull your watercraft right up to for beer, drinks, food,...
