Always a serene experience. Walks on the beach make it a relaxing get away. Seen many beautiful sunrises here. To the right of the point Mount Rainier can be seen. Bald Eagles are always seen fishing for food. Sea otters often travel in groups of two or more. For the most part it is a trash-free beach. Visitors build unique driftwood houses along the beach. Someday i may attempt a construction. At day break the lighthouse end of the beach becomes crowded with fisherman/boats. The beach is sandy on one side. A short walk around the other side of the point the beach is rocky & good for beach combing mainly small shells and rocks. Abalone used to be abundant here. I haven't seen any at all in a couple of years : (. It must be a threatened species. Perfect place for kite flying. If you don't mind salt water it will be a cold swim. This waterway is part of Washington States Puget Sound NOT an Ocean beach so no huge waves. The only bummer for me is "no beach fires are allowed." There is no "camping" but you can stay as long as you like. There are restrooms at the parking location here so go before you stroll. The Lighthouse beach never closes.Show up at night bundle up, bring a blanket. Build a driftwood dwelling or modify/occupy one already built, make sand castles & watch the stars. It's really a peaceful place. One night i went there were a group of Humpback Whales. Maybe (10) or more whales hanging around very close to shore feeding on Smelt (I think?) or Salmon. They were so close I felt the spray from them as they breached the water. It was amazing to hear these huge & magnificent mammals thriving so near. Really a great stop for the whole family including pets. There is a flat, gravel non-beach pathway along the upper beach. Not sure how far or where it goes to really. I never stayed on the pathway to find out. Visitors will pass the Point Casino & hotel on their way driving to this beach. It's amazing no matter the...
Read morewhat a beautiful place to visit! its a must see. the oldest lighthouse in WA state, sits out on a small Pennisula that jets out into the puget sound, surrounded by the islands and has incredible views of the Cascade mountains, including Mt Baker and Mt Ranier.
Theres a small parking area for about 15-20 cars, short walk thru a beautiful quiet neighborhood out to the point. its directly on the Hansville beach, so you could also access it that way as well. I saw several large shipping boats, a tug boat pulling others and huge swarms of birds playing just above the water. Whales are also often seen as they pass by. You can rent the original lighthouse keepers house, John Maggs ($225/night) and have a beautiful and quiet stay. The driftwood sculptures are very cool and are right on the grounds in the fenced in yards of the house. Behind the house is acrea of untouched grass and wetlands, i can imagine attract all sorts of birds and animals. Super cool place...
