What isn't great about this place... it rocks for so many reasons.
First of all, the park is beautiful, clean, family friendly, and community focused.
The staff is ALWAYS friendly and pleasant.
Disc Golf: This was my initial reason for going to Sam Michaels. I had heard through my various clubs that they had installed a course a few summers ago and i wanted to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised that for a community park style course, it was well done and challenging enough for nost players. The only downside is its so new that if you get off course, there isn't enough trails broken in and its so thick that finding a lost disc is very challenging if not impossible at this time. Just needs a little more put into it and concrete tees but a few more seasons and some community and club help itll be top notch.
Summer Camps: Both my kids attended the summer camp located at Sam Michaels last summer and while its not over the top the staff was again very friendly and pleasant and my kids had a ton of fun and made many memories and friends. The cost wasnt too bad either.
Community Events: Sam Michaels hold community events throughout the year and the first one i experienced was a father daughter dance last evening and it was well put together, well attended and both my daughter and i had a blast. We will be going for more events as they hokd more of them in the future for sure.
Keep up the good work Sam Michaels and Jefferson County...
Read moreAs a dog park, and a place to walk, Sam Michaels is just fine. But as a disc golf course not so much.
Ive been to Sam michaels 5 times to play disc golf, and every single time ive been there the grass has been high every time. One time i did go there, the grass was being cut, but the cut was 3” high. It may not sound like much, but a inch of grass can greatly affect the bounce and travel of a disc. Besides this there is only one more problem, which i understand. The tee-pads are horrible, and when i say horrible, I would rather the grass just be low-cut and the pad spraypainted on. Each pad is different one is (2’x4’), (3’x8’),(3.5’x 10’). Aside for this, the pads are layed brick with a wooden border…this makes the pads uneven, makes some runups on the longer holes inconsistent. I tripped on the lip of the wood that boxes in the pad. There are only 3 things i can personally say that are good about the course: (1. It has a good practice basket, (2. The course uses good Inova Discather baskets, and (3. The course layout is well designed. Iverall I would give the course a 3 star review, as a beginner course, which is pushing it, but but as a growing disc golfer i dont find this course very appealing anymore. I would recommend others to head to Ditto farms and Poorhouse farm park, because they dont have the same...
Read moreHaving visited several times, it had been a number of years since my last trip here. I always had been impressed with how large the dog park was before, but it has since been relocated to a much smaller enclosed area that is only a fraction of its previous size. However, I can imagine this is due to the lack of owners' taking care of their dogs resulting in a minefield to dodge around while walking. The previous larger area also doubles as event spaces as well, making more sense why the dog park is now completely separatr.
Of course, playgrounds, an indoor event space, sports fields, and walking trails are also offered here. Overall, the park is a great community resource. Nevertheless, I was hoping that more walking paths were available to allow for greater variety in...
