This place was a wonderful find for my husband, myself, and our dog (big plus!) We spent the day checking out points of interest in the area and this one intrigued us. We started directly behind the town hall which puts you out near the recycling facility. The woods and trails were absolutely beautiful. Lots of soft moss, ground cover, rocks, roots, and just interesting terrain. It was very icy on a winter day but what a treat to have this place entirely to ourselves. The walk along the cliff is absolutely breathtaking, worth the hike and visit alone. But if you enjoy hiking be sure to do the whole loop. We saw Henry's lookout and luckily were able to complete the loop and come out in the back opposite corner of the town hall lot.
They've done a lot of trail work on the portion that starts in the corner of the lot. They've put down crushed rock, covered it with gravel and made a large well manicured walking path along the water. They also built beautiful new bridges. I would definitely recommend this place, but do know the hiking does require some careful stepping with the varying terrain and if you have little ones or dogs be careful on the cliff walk portion of the trail as it's a very large drop off.
We can't wait to come back and see it...
Read moreThis forest may be magical. Fairy houses hidden off the trails, light pouring in, overlooks to cascades, mudflats, cliffs and everything that makes Maine the most special place.
Parking is behind town hall. A long look trail awaits the more adventurous. Wear sturdy footwear as the trails are filled with roots. Trails are well blazed and cared for with raised planks in muddy areas.
There are spur trails for lookouts. A wide variation of eco diversity can be observed from these sites.
Take a moment to notice how the light and smells change throughout the park. From one end to another there are changes that are transformative.
There are shorter trails as well. Instead of hopping on the white cliff loop, cut through the middle on yellow if time is short. If you want more there are more trails in the...
Read moreBeautiful & peaceful hike with alllllll the Acadia National Park. It is 45 minutes outside of Portland & short 10 minute drive from downtown Brunswick. The 2.5 miles long hike starts in a forest then ends up following along the coast with beautiful water / cliff views. The hike was beautiful with various scenes all in ONE hike- from the pine forest that has magical moss, stunning trees & mushrooms to the bluffs over looking the ledge. While the hike may be on the shorter distance wise- it’s an intense work out with lots of roots / rocks to get over, some steep areas around the cliff side & some scrambling. Bring boots & bug spray - it was muddy & buggy. Super beautiful & worth the hike. Easy parking lot at the entrance of the trail. Easily marked trail to follow along...
