The road to the falls trailhead is a dirt, gravel & rock pothole-riddled steep-inclines road. A low-clearance or sports car will sustain damage on the road, and while a FWD vehicle may have a relatively bumpy and bouncy easy drive TO the parking lot it will have a really hard time getting back up the steep hills on the way back to the main road -- whether the road is dry or muddy. We saw a Dodge minivan stuck at the bottom of the first hill out of the parking lot cause it did not have the horsepower to get up the steep gravel hill. We advised the driver to back up a bit, turn off the Traction Control, drop it out of overdrive and into 1st gear, and go up at an angle instead of straight up the hill. He took the advice and he made it to the top, with some tire spinning and sliding. Anyhow, yes the road is difficult to traverse in a non-4WD or AWD vehicle, but it is so worth it! The hike to the bottom of the falls is easy; it is .10 mile one-way on a clear no-incline path. The hike to the top of the falls is a bit hard, .25 mile one-way; it is steep and narrow and quite muddy even 3 days after a rain. Once at the top, the rocks are slick right after a rain but are dry 2 to 3 days after a rain. I expected a decent-sized body of water at the top of the falls but there wasn't one. There was a shallow creek and a run-off water flow that merged into one area and flowed over the cliff to form the 3 falls. Both areas of the falls were more than worth the hike! I definitely recommend making Triple Falls a stop...
Read moreThe road getting to Triple falls is very rough. We were told we would need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to make it, but we made it just fine in my Buick Regal. We went on an afternoon after a morning of rain and a large storm system has passed through the night before. It was beautiful. We had read reviews before going, so we knew not to expect a "hike". If you go expecting a hike, you will be disappointed. We decided to visit the Falls between other long hikes, during a resting period. We were very pleased the day we visited. The falls were beautiful and the water was quite powerful. We were surprised at how much wind came off the falls. We also decided to climb to the top of the falls. What we didn't realize at the time was that there was a very simple trail we could have taken to see the top instead of having to climb the steep grade, muddy cliff side we went up. This waterfall system is pretty much accessible to anyone from the very youngest to the oldest in...
Read moreOverall good place to visit if you are left with time from other things arpund . iIt's unpaved, dirt road with huge holes and very steep. I was surprised that no one has improved this road. There's also no signage and luckily I had researched this ahead of time to find it. You will head down to Camp Orr Boy Scout and wonder if you are going the right way. At the bottom of the hill was a small dirt parking space and a tiny sign that pointed to the trail. The trail is flat and only took about 10 minutes to get to the waterfall. After a big rain I understand there are three but on December 21 we had twin falls and they were flowing slowly into a pool of water. Wonderful to see and the water was cold to wade in. Going back up this road to leave was difficult. I wasn't sure we were going to make it. Again I would recommend going to see this if you have a vehicle to handle this...
