I find it difficult to know exactly when I'm on the Lion's Head but that doesn't really matter. The whole experience of being on Mount Washington is fantastic. I hiked up the Alpine Garden Trail and down the Lion's Head Trail. Don't underestimate Washington! The forecast called for temperatures in the high 80's in the area but I used gloves at the summit. I had a great weather day but it doesn't always work that way. A hike up to Lion's Head is something everyone should do but just be prepared. The trail is quite rocky and a twisted ankle is a definite possibility. Look in to getting a HIKE SAFE card from the state of New Hampshire. It's good for a year and helps offset the cost of a rescue should you need one. It's not a get out of jail free card, you still have to be responsible while hiking.
