Had a awesome time at the Father's day carshow on sunday 6-17-2018. It was our first time out there & boy what a beautiful park it really is , unfortunately we got out there very late and we didn't have time to go through all of the storage buildings etc.! But we still had a great time walking around looking at all of the really kool cars and trucks and talking with people , we didn't see all of the cars and trucks and bikes , but I did find my brother #ChadKidder from Sinister Paint , who was the whole reason why we came out in the first place because he invited us , so we came out and hung out , next year I hope to make it out there much earlier so that I can check out the whole entire place and have plenty of time to do it in , also I would just like to say we loved the free parking and the free shuttle buses and plenty of Porta-Potty spread out was all slave. Big + as well , I hope they do that for every event that they hold out there , also I was just wondering what are the other events that are going to be out there & when ? I definitely would love to come back to this park as many times...
Read moreFor years, the area was called Indian Landing because of the Pottawatomi tribes that migrated from Wisconsin in the early 1800's. In 1849, an Episcopal Methodist mission was established on the Thornapple River for both Native Americans and European settlers. A small church was built on the site. On Sundays, the Native Americans blew a horn that could be heard for three to four miles. Hearing the signal, the pioneers living across the river would proceed on horseback to the water's edge. There the Native Americans would meet them and transport them by canoe to church services. In 1853, a log schoolhouse was built here at the request of the Native Americans. Historic Charlton Park began as one man's dream for preservation of the past. In 1936, Irving Charlton donated 210 acres to Barry County for a museum and recreation facility for local residents, resulting in Historic Charlton Park.
