If you have never been to Camp Shelby and a civilian, you will need to check in at the visitor center (just to the right of the gate) with your DL. After that, ask the guard at the gate how to get to the museum and it’s very easy to locate.
Well worth the drive. It is free to tour, but there is a place to leave a donation - which you should do. This was a great museum with so much to read and learn. He enjoyed himself too so it’s not too adult for the kiddos. I think it’s telling I took no pictures of the conflict I was in and had a major anxiety spike driving through Camp Shelby. It had not occurred to me that I went to PLDC there in the 80s. It was a weird “forget and then I was in the middle of a vivid memory” moment. Read moreI really enjoyed this museum. I came to Hattiesburg on a day trip and saw that this was recommended on a travel site. I did not know that the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum was actually on base. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Even had a few jokes about my AL tag.
