Easy quick paddle from the nearby beach (I think it's called Papalua Wayside Park) - few hundred yards. Assuming wind and surf aren't too strong.
To access by land: You can also park at the Lahaina Pali Trailhead, cross the road, go hundred yards south and then down the hill directly to the water - some loose scrambling involved, but nothing too bad. Parking at the beach mentioned above is ok too, you'll just have to walk along the highway for 10-15 minutes.
Reef itself is pretty nice, we've seen variety of fish and some turtles. There are some videos on YouTube

Read moreBelieve it or not, this is one of the most beautiful spots to snorkel on Maui. I am pretty sure you can only get there by boat, unless you like climbing down cliffs. We ended up there on the Aqua Adventures when Molokini was a bit too rough. Now every time I go on the boat, I am hoping we get to go to Coral Gardens. Read morePark at the Lahaina Pali Trail parking lot and cross the highway. Medium/hard difficulty to walk across the rocks going toward coral gardens, but definitely doable. Would not recommend doing it in sandals, but I did and it was okay.
