The beach is great, but the “helpers” that take $20 a person to drive you down, can be very rude. I don’t know how this is even legal. The older lady in the attached photo, who seems to be the ring leader that has the Venmo account to take your money, was smoking pot the whole time she was driving people up and down. Shame on you. She refused to let people in the cab of her truck, unlike all the others, so she could smoke pot. She was rude to my 88 year old local father in law, and made us wait more than an hour for a ride, skipping us several times because some of our party decided to walk down. This is a poor representation of the Hawaiian culture. My wife who is Hawaiian was embarrassed in how she was talking so rude to people that didn’t want to pay. “Oh you will end up paying me for a ride back up from da beach, you will see. I run dis show”. Wow. You are a poor representative of the Hawaiian culture and can do better. Didn’t see any waivers. Seems like a liability waiting to happen. Might have to check in on what sort of taxes they are paying on all the cash they are collecting. We have the...

Get there early (around or before 9AM), walk out along the shoreline, stop and explore the shore as you go, go down to the beach (if you are early and lucky you will have the beach to yourself, enjoy a ride back, all before the big crowds arrive... My wife and I arrived early and walked to the beach. We walked close to the shoreline and I went down to the shore to get pictures. You will see green sand most of the walk and some of the shore will have greener sand than the green sand beach. When we got to the beach, there were only six people there. Soon the rest of the people left and we had the beach to ourselves for a few minutes. Then we took a ride back with "the turtle". As we drove back I saw close to 60+ people on their way...

It seems that you can walk this 3 mile hike or you can drive if you have the proper vehicle or dare to take a regular vehicle but there were locals here controlling the entrance to the walking area it did not make me feel very comfortable being able to just to walk myself they were offering rides of course and they were charging for the rides and then when I got back from my short little walk as I was just exploring there were a couple people arguing here dropping f-bombs right and left I think something about who had the right to take the next person...
