Incredible to experience! The sheer size of this crater was unreal and the pictures we took didn’t come close to doing it justice. The volcano erupted a few days before we visited the park but there was still plenty of steam coming from the North vents. We were able to see the crater from a few different overlooks, the best coming from the SE side near Keanakako'i Overlook - there are signs to follow that say “Eruption Viewpoint” and they take you down a short trail just before the Keanakako'i Overlook. Read moreSpectacular here. My wife and I cam through and saw the lava spitting as the sun set. Watching the red glow of the crater appear as the sun sets is mesmerizing. Weather can change the whole day, if it's foggy or raining it can be harder to see what's going, plus the volcano itself can be unpredictable and may not be spitting at all.
