I'm sure this volcano is a lot more awesome during quiet times but when I was there (Jan 2019) Most of the trails are closed and not much to see because of recent eruptions. Holei Sea Arch is also inaccessible and seeing lava slamming into the ocean is but a mere wishful thinking. Do research and read latest news before embarking here.

Great to come and see the crater and can only see glimpses of molten larva. Really good effect at night. Well worth it. There is a small visitors centre here as well as the viewing areas. In the visitors centre there are refreshments, souvenirs and toilets. We came on a tour and this is where you will come to see the crater.

Stunning and amazing to look down into the crater! We were lucky enough to be there during the last eruption in January 2023 and it was epic! At night the glow from the crater is unreal. One of life’s most amazing experiences is to be here and see the eruption and the lava lake that forms. Spectacular!

Incredible to experience! The sheer size of this crater was unreal and the pictures we took didn’t come close to doing it justice. The volcano erupted a few days before we visited the park but there was still plenty of steam coming from the North vents. We were able to see the crater from a few different overlooks, the best coming from the SE side near Keanakako'i Overlook - there are signs to follow that say “Eruption Viewpoint” and they take you down a short trail just before the Keanakako'i Overlook. Some advice, snap a few pictures but take time to be present and experience the wonder of...

Spectacular here. My wife and I cam through and saw the lava spitting as the sun set. Watching the red glow of the crater appear as the sun sets is mesmerizing. Weather can change the whole day, if it's foggy or raining it can be harder to see what's going, plus the volcano itself can be unpredictable and may not be spitting at all. Was an amazing experience I will come back for. Disabled access is easy as you can drive up to the centre and see exactly what everyone else does. Bathrooms...

This point is definitely one of the best and must visit places in Big island. I recommend you to be here two times: once in daytime and the other in the evening. It's so amazing and impressive to see each of huge smoke and red hall likr hell gate at night. If you have more time to stay here, don't miss the tracking chance to experience one of the most amazing nature...
