Snorkle review: private parking, only 30 spots which are granted by the security at the entry gate. Located within a millionaires country club neighborhood with multiple gate barriers you pass through, and beach staff (for the country club) who were happy to talk to you... so this is a very safe "rich mans beach" without the worry of your car being broken into or someone stealing your belongings left on the beach while you swim. Short 3 minute walk on smooth asphalt path. Bathrooms with fresh water showers and changing bench. ๐๏ธ The first cove is protected from waves and smooth, glassy water with soft sand for the kids to play in. Good amount of deep shade everywhere. ๐ด Second bay is just beyond the first, go here to snorkel! Finding Nemo ๐ world is under the surface there! Enter into water at the steep sandy beach to the north/right when you stand looking out at the large bay with outriggers and swimmers. Swim to the left/west towards the breaking waves. I saw E.V.E.R.Y. fish on the charts and most species were in schools (i.e. 8 cornet fish, 6 Black durgon triggers, 5 Picasso triggers, 4 Moorish idols, angels and butterflies) some schools were hundreds ( i.e. yellow Tang, convict tangs). Fish were fearless! I floated in 2-3 feet of water over the coral/lava reef ๐ชธ and the fish went about swimming within arms distance around and under me. ๐ ๐ Once a school of 200+ convict tangs fed together right under me for 5 minutes! Fearless green turtle joined me and she swam and fed around me for 10 minutes as I watched. ๐ข Water was warm and infrequently swam into a cool fresh water spot which made vision burry for a few seconds. Unique! Only currents were the small flowing waves ๐ going in and out of the shallows. Plenty of rocky corals with large brain/cauliflower coral heads further out. ๐ชธ...

05/05/2025 (Mon) We finally made it in today! The entrance is through the Kukio Keiki Beach gate, and from the parking lot, a path on the right leads to Kikaua Point Park. If you follow that path, youโll reach a calm, lagoon-style beach with soft white sand. Unfortunately, my camera battery died, so I couldnโt record it, but the water was crystal clear, the waves were gentle, and there were so many fishโit was truly a perfect spot for snorkeling.๐๐ ๐ก This ended up being my husband's favorite beach of the trip! The beach is especially great for families and beginner snorkelers thanks to its sheltered waters.๐โจ
05/07/2025 (Wed) We had only stopped by this beach briefly two days ago, but we were impressed by the clear water, warm temperature, and abundance of fish, so we decided to come back this morning for a longer stay. We were able to see many different types of fish, and on our way out, a monk seal came ashore and started napping on the beach. It was such a heartwarming surprise to see this unexpected guest, and everyone who had been playing nearby kindly moved away to give it space. It turned out to be a memorable and peaceful morning by...
ย ย ย Read moreOut of all of the beaches we visited on the big island, this one was my favorite! The snorkeling is in the top ten places I have ever snorkeled. I saw sea snakes, thousands of fish, healthy coral reefs, sea turtles, hundreds of sea urchins (red and black), and there were even cleaning fish near the shore (you know, the exfoliating skin kind that nibble on your skin to eat the dead skin, it really tickles and is so fun). The lagoon is safe for little kids and has a sandy bottom. The beach is small, but has the same powder sugar sand found in the Bahamas. The reef is hundreds of yards long and is so close to the surface of the water, that you have to really be careful and not bump into it. There are pockets of water that is easily as hot as a hot tub in the reef area just outside of the little lagoon (100 feet from the shore). We loved the little arch in the rocks, just off the shore. This is a snorkeling fantasy land. Better than Captian Cooks just an hour or so away. The only issue is the parking and the short walk to the beach. They only allow a few cars in at a time so you either need to get there early, or wait for your turn. The gated community is very strict about the parking. The bathrooms are big and clean. This beach also has some shade, making it the...
