Kolekole Gulch Park. — Attraction in Hawaii

Scenery wise this was one of my favorite parks on the Big Island. It has been restricted due to lead poisoning from when the gigantic bridge was scraped clean over a decade ago. All of the vegetation was overgrown and felt like you were in the middle of "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Had an easy, short walk to see a beautiful, hidden waterfall and a great overlook of the ocean with no one around. Just don't play in the water or stick anything in your mouth and you will be safe...

This was a nice, scenic spot, although not as spacious as the other Parks we've visited. The waterfall that feeds into the main swimming area was pretty cool too. The water was just as clear and clean as the other Parks we've visited as well. Walk to the ocean end of the Park and prepare to take it all in. This area was for experienced surfers. We came out on 6-8 ft swell day. There was a lot of rock and debris to avoid. We had fun, but difficult to stay out of the way of the experienced surfers, also too rocky to stand in the water to help my little guy get up on a wave. I would have been fine if I brought some water shoes. I was just in Hilo area...
