Read moreWe stopped by this beach for a few hours one day. The ride out is really an adventure...you go over a very un-even and pothole filled lava road for a number of miles before getting here.
We parked at the end and went straight forward to the main beach. The beach was very pretty and there was some salt and pepper sand. However it was mostly lava rock.
The waves were pretty rough so there was no swimming. However there were some small tide pools that you could look in and see crabs, snails, fish, and sea urchins.
There is a lot of dead coral washed up on the beach which my 10 year old son enjoyed looking at. There are also some nice picnic benches in the shade so this would be a great place for a picnic. There is a decent building with toilets on site.

There's a bathroom building and fresh water showers. Occasionally the sand gets washed out but the sea always brings it back. The water is warm and clear and is the stuff postcards are made for! Generally there's little to no rip currents but at times the surf is pounding! As always, never turn your back to the ocean! And never ever take your eyes off your kids! Even though there are tropical fish at the edges near the rocks and occasional visits of Honu (sea turtles), they are not there for your enjoyment! Too many tourists think it's ok to bother them for photo opportunities! Keep your distance and respect their space because they're not on vacation.
There's a rocky road a couple hundred yards away from the pavement road into Kua Bay. It's too rough for your rental Jeep so don't do it! Hike it and your won't be disappointed! You might even be visited by some of the local wild goats who...
