Neat island you can hike through the water to. It's a bird sanctuary, so follow the rules and leave dogs at home. When we visited, some lady had her "service" dog with her. I don't think it actually was because it barked at us. She let it just run around dragging its leash 😬. This is a bird sanctuary! Respect the wildlife and follow the rules. No pets (not even service dogs are allowed on the island, though they are allowed at the main park). Please pick up after yourself and if you want to really be cool, clean up some of the existing trash (there is a sign saying if you pile the trash up there then the rangers will take it off the island when they visit)! Awesome place to visit. Two secluded beaches with small waves. A few tide pool areas. Lots of birds to see, but don't bother and stay off the center of the island which is their space. At low tide the water at its deepest during crossing was about 3 feet plus waves. So our smallest kid got fully wet and the tall adults only were wet part way up. If you bring a phone or anything you don't want wet, better have them in a water proof case to be safe.

Always a great, and fun one with the ohana in tow. We've been going for many years. Always worth the cross to Mokuauia "goat island" each time we camp at Malāekahana! Please respect and follow rules. Stay on the paths, do not bother wild life. Please, please pick up after yourselves, and your children. On our last visit two weeks ago, we found and picked up lots of trash. So sad. Let's all help keep it beautiful so many generations can continue to enjoy. Best to go on low tide, and don't forget your water shoes! 😉 And no, there are no goats on the island.

This is a beautiful area and the island looks beautiful from the shore opposite. But to get to the island without a kayak or board, people have to walk over living coral. There is no other way to walk there. Once we started seeing the life under our feet we had to turn around. Horrible feeling to trample over living coral especially realizing it is just to get a bird sanctuary and place of worship where we shouldn’t be going to anyway. Highly recommend the beach and the views of the islands. But please respect the coral reef and the island and think twice.

I used to love taking my children here. My son and I came here a few days ago with my grandchildren. There is a large homeless encampment here now. They have taken over the area. They put shower curtains in the bathrooms. They walk around with their pitbulls. You can smell the pakalolo everywhere. Our car got broken into and they took my son's camera bag. It was not showing. It was in his trunk. After our report, I found out it is known for criminal activity. I am very sad about this and I want everyone reading to beware. I will never take my...
