It's beautiful from a distance but keep driving, or better yet, fly over. The water stinks from whatever mineral is in it and also from the dead vegetation and rotting larva husks that can pile up to a foot deep on the shore in the summer. It's a dead lake so fishing will be a bust. If you put anything with a motor in the water you have to clean it really well when you're done because the alkaline is so bad it can cause damage. You can swim here but be prepared to be bitten by the dragonfly larva (which seems to be the only thing that thrives in the water) and be prepared to feel very dirty and stink when you're done. The land around the lake has camp sites for tents and pads for rv's but I'm not sure about hook up service (I don't think so). There are no trees, grass or other green vegetation with the exception at the ends of the lake, where you are not allowed, and the never ending quantity of dirty sage brush that smells like cat pee when it rains. If you are a spider lover you should definitely go to Walker Lake in the summer because there are thousands of spiders everywhere you look. There was even a YouTube video that showed hundreds of spiders sharing a web by one of the restrooms. It was a nightmare even for the Addams family. If checking the box next to 'worst vacation ever' is on your bucket list then this should be your...
Β Β Β Read moreDo not waste your time thinking about camping here!! This is a unkempt dirt hole of a campground. Out of the three day's and nights we camped there, noone came in to clean bathrooms or empty dumpster. Being there is only one dumpster and one out of six bathrooms open, dumpster is well beyond needing to be dumped and bathroom is disgusting, since campground is located right off the highway, during the day the bathroom is used by many as a public bathroom also a temporary hideout for junkie/travelers to shoot up. Guessing by the easy to spot used needles. There is also zero access to water, A water tap where non consumable water at one time was obtained is shut off. Their website claims there's swimming, boating and fishing in lake, but actually nobody is allowed to be in lake for boating, swimming, or fishing. If you happen to own a fully self contained vehicle, and only need a parking spot for a night or two, this will do. If you care to dry camp use the facilities and swim or fish, boat. You'll be sorely disappointed. One big zero even as a dry or...
Β Β Β Read moreWalker Lake, Tamarack Beach, NV was not what I expected. The area was covered by rocks and gravel but the view of mountains, the sky, clouds and mountainous highways were magnificent.
Due to the openness of the beach it wasn't unusual to be plummet by high winds during the day or at night.
When I arrived on May 27th six vehicles were there. During my last three days I was the only person on the beach. I left the area on June 7th.
(1) Maximum stay is 14-days (2) Cost - Free (3) I have a Verizon tower. So, I never lost phone or internet services (4) Paved parking spots with fire pits (5) Beach water is salty (6) Public unisex bathroom on premises (7) Tombstone quiet (8) I stayed for 11-days. If not for the wind which was brutal, I would have stayed for 14-days (9) The biggest problem I noticed is owners letting dogs roam off leash, and not cleaning up behind either (leashed...
