Pros: Extremely clean. Lifeguards don't tolerate nonsense (rule breakers). Lot of space to sit. Bathrooms have showers. Bathrooms were also clean. Friendly staff.
My concerns: Unable to bring a reusable water bottle into the pool. A one time exception was made - which I greatly appreciate because I am 3.5 months pregnant and need to stay hydrated. However, I didn't know about this rule because it's not listed on the website. I do recognize that it says "no outside food or drink" but I didn't think that included water in a reusable water bottle vs a plastic one time use water bottle which I was told is okay? Being that plastic bottles are anything but environmentally friendly, I thought for sure a state park would have no issues with a reusable water bottle.
"No outside food or drink", leads me to my second concern - the concession stand at the pool had: small slices of plain cheese pizza (like the kind you get at a Chucky Cheese kids party); soft pretzel (was unfortunately sold out); couple flavors of ice cream; soda; water; one kind of plain potato chip; and about 4 kinds of candy bars. The website reads, "The concession stand features delicious sandwiches, wraps, pizza, ice cream, and baked goods from our local Ottsville community." Unfortunately for us, 3 out of 5 things listed in the description were not available. Not sure if it's like that all the time or it was just...
Read moreThey are very creative at making up rules on not allowing people to bring anything in while charging $13. For ex: no soccer balls allowed because if someone gets hit not in your party it’s a conflict (the space is huge w so much open grassy space). No individual tubes because then a person’s body counts as two people, limiting the capacity they can allow in. No empty reusable water bottles (tho no reason for that one). When asking them how it’s legal to restrict so many things without clear signage, a staff member said as a contracted company they can “do whatever they want.” As a state park, I would love to see a review of the contracting company who’s operating the pool. It’s really gross & disappointing to have families charged for everything extra that’s possible to charge for — chairs, water, etc. For $13 at a state park people should be allowed to enjoy themselves to a...
