As some locals we met in previous places suggested, we decided to drive 36 minutes outside of Helen to visit Bell Mountain located in Hiawassee. There you can enjoy one of the best views of Georgia. Additionally, you can see four states from the top all together. Amazing, isn’t it?
Some tips: You definitely need a car in very good condition to visit this place. The road to get to the top of the mountain is narrow (only one car at a time) and there are 90 degree curves. After reaching the top there is a small space where you can park and continue climbing the rest of the mountain or you can take the risk of climbing the rest of the mountain in your car but it isn't safe.
This place is completely free.
Despite the fact that I got dizzy on the road and wanted to vomit. All those symptoms disappear once you reach the top and take in the wonderful view. It's heaven on earth!

Read moreIf you are in a larger vehicle DO NOT TRY TO GET TO THIS SITE! I'm not sure what idiot in Hiawassee, GA thought it was a good idea to NOT post any signs whatsoever at the beginning of Shake Rage Road, but please do NOT try to drive this in anything but a small vehicle, preferrable with 4WD. I couldn't find what the actual grade of the road is, but it's supposed to be 2-way, but is barely wide enough for a small car. We were in a van and at one point we could NOT get up the grade and started sliding backwards down the slope at one of the switchbacks. There are NO guardrails and the drops was several hundred feet off the mountain. I had to get out of the van and help direct my husband in doing a very dangerous multi-point turn around to get back down to highway 76. This was extremely dangerous and the local authorities should be ASHAMED of themselves for not posting grade signs and warnings about the dangers...
Read moreThe drive up is pretty tricky with many blind curves, several spots for one vehicle only and very steep. But once you make it to the top it is beautiful and the view is amazing. There is a lot of graffiti painted on all the rocks from generations of high school students, pretty cool. It was the end of September when we went up and at the lookout point there were millions of tiny black bugs that attacked me, I believe it was the white shirt I was wearing. They didn't bite but they were annoying enough I had to come down immediately. So if you go and it's the end of September or beginning of October don't wear white. It is worth the time and drive for the view and to see the graffiti just use extreme caution on the drive up, down and don't wear white lol. Bring your own chairs if you want to sit. They really need to put benches up there. It would be nice to sit a while and...
