A beautiful spot where the Appalachain Trail crosses a larger road that also happens to be a great bicycling route. A nice plaque marks the AT. I biked there from Helen. The climb up northward from Helen is long-- almost 11 miles of uphill--but not steep. The first 7.5 mi are only about 2%, and the last 3.5 mi are about 5%. The road is nice, enough views and nature sounds to keep you distracted from the effort of the climb, with decent room for cars to pass safely. The road is fairly well-travelled, but mostly had a passing lane for cars to get around without crowding you. I turned around at the top; the decent on a bike was great!

My sister in law and I went hiking here last week. Small open parking lot, with access to part of the AT. There are no bathrooms, picnic tables, or other amenities, just access to the trails. Great hike if you are looking for a challenge. Definitely less traveled than Kennesaw or Raven Cliff Falls. But beautiful and very peaceful.

I have not hiked it. I just saw the crystalized trees and pulled over for a couple beautiful pictures. There arnt any bathroom. It is just a pull off with a hiking trail.

Hiawassee or Helen? Man this is a tough choice. Hiawassee has lots of things to do and eat, but Helen has a real Bavarian town made from the skeletal remain of ancient Bavarian peoples. I read somewhere when you order a beer in Helen they serve it to you in a real human skull from an ancient dead Bavarian. I like history so I...
