We stayed at the ‘Beary Cozy’ cabin April 20th - 26th, 2025.
I would like to first brag about this community before my review about the cabin. The local towns people are AMAZING! We met and hung out with the most wonderful and kind people. We tried every restaurant in town, we visited the reptile zoo, we hiked, we fished, we grabbed ice cream, we shopped, played mini golf, and even had some beverages at Toad’s Bar n Grill. Overall, the town is what made our vacation a really great experience. Our kids had such a great week full of fun and adventure. We HIGHLY recommend Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. We will be back to visit 100%.
The cabin: The first thing we noticed when we arrived was a musty smell that hits you as soon as you walk through the doors. We weren’t sure if this is because the cabin had been closed up for a while or because the couches and blankets smelling of wet dog. There was an envelope on the counter that was requesting a ‘tip’ for the how well they cleaned the cabin. (Laughable). The bed in the loft was made, but had dirty sheets and comforter. Everything was covered in dog hair and once again, smelled of wet dog. There was also a pair of dirty men’s underwear and shorts in the chest of drawers. We would have loved to have the air mattress promised in the description, but never called to ask for it. As far as the amenities, they left what they said they would. We were there for 6 full days and they left us a quarter roll of paper towels and one hand towel each for the kitchen and bathroom. The TP and Paper Towels were absolutely garbage because they were the lowest of quality that you can buy. We would have appreciated at least 2 full rolls of paper towels and more toilet paper considering there were 4 of us for a week long stay. Another mention is the deck with the view of the woods, was it lovely? Yes. Could we enjoy it? No. The deck had clear evidence of termite damage and there was no way I was letting my children stand out there. The kitchen had no dish washer, (fyi) and most of their cups and bowls are broken. They also ask that you wash the 6 whole towels they leave you (ridiculous) at the end of the week before you leave. We did of course, but truly it would have been nice to have more towels and me not to have to do laundry every night because of showers and hot tub usage. Lastly, the hot tub. This was indeed one the favorites of the children. Despite the hot tub having dirty water and the tub feeling absolutely slimy, we begrudgingly let our children and ourselves “enjoy” the hot tub. It needs a good clean out and scrub. All in all, I would give this cabin a 2 out of 10. It was decorated cute and had a nice view, but if it would have just been cleaned properly and the couches scrubbed, this could have easily been an 8 out of 10. They have lots to work on and do not recommend staying here. Also noteworthy - they are selling this cabin and it is live on the market right now. Their address is 255 Platinum...

Read moreThe Red River Gorge is a part of the Daniel Boone National Forest. It defines a specific area of the forest. There are hundreds of maintained forest trails and parts of the trails crossover into the State Park system of Natural Bridge. When we first started exploring "the Gorge" I felt like that took some time for me to understand as a beginning hiker. There are beautiful rock formations, steep hills, huge drop-offs, wildlife, and all of nature at its finest. The Red River Gorge does allow for "back country" camping and backpacking camping. There are specific camping rules that are designed for your safety and to conserve the precious nature of the forest. Basic safety precautions should be taken especially with small children and pets as a large drop-off can pop-up out of nowhere and you can be at the bottom of it without even realizing what happened. Additionally, there are some jerks that try to take advantage of your parked car while you hike. People have been known to have their windshield busted out while hiking - this is the reason for my 4 star rating. Do not leave anything of value inside your car. Take plenty of water and food in the event you become lost because it has happened! Take a map. They sell fantastic maps at the local stores nearby the most popular trail-heads. We absolutely love this place! It is one of the most beautiful places in Kentucky. We have been exploring this area for over 5 years and I feel like we have only seen a fraction of what it offers. There are hundreds of photos online to show what each trail offers. Do your research and open your eyes! I can walk the same trail 10 different times and see something new each time. The magic of this forest and the history is beyond anything you can imagine. The abundant types of trees and plants will make you feel like you've stepped outside...
