I’m a local, and I’ve been to Simi several times. Despite their mediocre service and unfriendly attitude, I liked their wines enough to join their wine club. Some friends from out of town were visiting so I took them to Simi for some tastings.
To reiterate many other reviews on here, nobody behind the counter was friendly and the service was very slow even though they weren’t busy. We went back to buy a bottle the next day 15 minutes before closing time and rather than being greeted, this woman Lynn (maybe one of the managers) yelled at us to get out. After stating we just wanted to buy a single bottle she throws her hands up and tells the employee next to her she “can’t handle this, you ring them up” and storms off into the back room.
Now I could understand if they were empty, trying to close up and we were walking in at the last second expecting service but this place was still full of customers, with others coming in behind us. I was appalled with her behavior and have never experienced such a public outburst before. I figured maybe she was having a bad day or something and not take it personally. After all, the guy who rang me up (Michael) was friendly and apologized for her behavior.
I decided to give them one more shot and took my father there for wine tasting. We were promptly greeted by Steve, who started out friendly and chatty. We were having a good time right up until the last pour, when out of the blue Steve asked my dad if he had been drinking earlier that day because he “noticed that he was acting like he drank too much.” (I know my dad and he wasn’t even remotely buzzed off of the tiny little pours this guy had been doling out. We weren’t being loud or stumbling or anything that looked out of the ordinary). I thought he was joking and waited for the rest of it, but no Steve was actually accusing my dad of drinking too much, and continued to scold both of us. I was completely mortified and my dad was embarrassed. We simply said: “we’re fine thanks” and Steve walked into the back to get the bottles we ordered. Rather than waiting around to purchase them we just left.
Simi winery is managed by two of the most unprofessional and snobby people I’ve ever met. They’ve personally insulted my father and yelled at my friends and me. I’ve been to several dozen wineries throughout Napa, Sonoma, and Alexander valleys and nobody else has been rude. I hope the owners wise up and replace these two because they don’t belong in management or customer service. They should be ashamed. I will never return to Simi and advise everyone to avoid them. I already cancelled my membership and won’t be buying...
Read moreDuring our trip to Napa & Sonoma we stopped at a lot of boutique wineries that sold only through wine clubs. I did, however, want to visit a couple of wineries that mass market their wines but assumed the visits would be inferior to the boutique wineries. I was wrong. We had the best time during our Simi in the Cellar tour. It was a small group tour with 6 other people and a nice young man that was great and very accommodating to our "mature" group. At the end of the group tour, we had the best tasting with different stemware for each wine. It was really a great experience and I heartily recommend...
Read moreWe stopped here because we are members of their sister winery, Woodbridge Winery in Lodi. The wines were great, but Karen, our server, was better. We had skiped over one wine as we moved to taste the bolder flavored Cabs. Karen provided many stories and bits of information as we went through our tasting. As we thought we were finished our flight, she asked us to try a wine in an inconspicuously unlabeled bottle. We enjoyed it and she tokd us that it was her favorite and that it was the Petite Sirah. it was great and we bought two bottles. ...
