Chickasaw State Park is a hidden gem that offers a stunning retreat into nature's embrace. From the moment you enter, the beauty of the park is striking—lush pine forests, tranquil meadows, and a pristine lake that mirrors the sky. The trails wind gently through varied terrain, offering scenic overlooks, quiet creeks, and ample opportunities to spot wildlife.
Beauty: The park is a painter’s dream. In the spring and fall, it's an explosion of color—wildflowers carpet the forest floor in April, while autumn brings fiery reds and golds. The lake at sunrise is especially breathtaking, often cloaked in a soft mist that makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard.
Maintenance: Impeccably cared for. Trails are well-marked and clear of debris, although restrooms could be better, and the picnic areas are neatly arranged with regularly emptied bins. Park staff and rangers are friendly, helpful, and visibly dedicated to the park’s upkeep. Signage is clear without being intrusive.
Serenity: Even on weekends, there's a sense of peace here that’s hard to find elsewhere. The layout of the park allows for plenty of solitude, especially along the longer hiking trails or tucked-away benches by the lake. There’s minimal traffic noise, and cell service is spotty—in the best way possible.
Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a place to disconnect from the chaos of daily life and reconnect with nature, Chickasaw State Park is an ideal destination. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and clearly loved by those who care for it. A perfect day trip or weekend escape for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone seeking tranquility.
Bonus: A park ranger also let us pet a king snake !! It was surreal to look at it...
Read moreWe just returned from a Family Reunion . This was our fourth Year at the park that we truly enjoy. However, when it comes to the Cabins that we rented {for 3 Days} it is a totally different Story. Our Visit last year was already very disappointing because the Cabins where not only dirty but filthy. I spoke with the Manager Ron Elders last year and he assured us ,that this year would be a better experience! We arrived May 24 2019, and hoped for a more pleasant Cabin experience. To our dismay we found the Bathroom again filthy, the Cabinets in the Kitchen were filled with Mice droppings, not just a few but hundreds of them! It took me 2 Hours to clean the cabinets and dishes ! We spoke to Ranger Mike and the Office Staff, and heard allot of " we are sorry" but that is it! A hole in the floor in one of the Bedrooms indicated where the Mice are coming from! The Air Vent in the Bedrooms where so filthy. The Windowsills in dining area where covered with mouse droppings! Above all of this , the so called "Cleaning Crew" ask us to clean the dishes before we leave the cabin. My Husband is a Air Force Veteran and was NOT extended the Military Discount on the Cabin. We would have checked out but we promised to host a luncheon for 25 Family members. My Sister and Brother -in-law checked out the 25th after a sleepless night in there Cabin with a Mouse infestation. Our Family rented 6 Cabins this year and sadly it will be the last! We love the Park but are unwilling to pay $500.00 + for an Mice invested Cabin! Sam...
Read moreI stayed at the Main Campground for one week. I was located in spot 46, which is a pull-off spot versus a typical pull-through or back-in.
Pros: Beautiful park with gorgeous horses to view Nice small lake to view, although I hear the fishing isn't great Many activities available at the park Campground/sites is/were well kept and clean Some sites have full hook-ups, while others have only water/elec As usual, most campers were nice and friendly, minus the non-responsible folks who let their dogs bark non-stop. That's a people problem, not a park problem.
Cons: As my picture shows, the red dots are a main hwy (Hwy 100), so if you stay in any site near that highway then you will hear cars all day and night. This is the biggest con for me. I could have heard traffic at my house, but it's on me for only looking at the park map and not Google Maps.
If you are working or need internet access, this isn't the place for you. The park's paid service is slow, AT&T has near zero service, and my TravelFi camper internet is at dialup speed. If you're on a true vacation then probably doesn't matter.
I had to chevk out eaely because im on a working getaway, not vacation, so no internet service made it impossible for me to work. Lastly, I never found a laundry facility, but I could have overlooked it.
I would return again but I wouldn't stay at any site in the "back." I would only stay in the front sites closest to the main park road, which is called...
