What a horrid and tasteless experience I had! Didn’t know there was an event tonight where you could actually go inside. Myself and my toddler, who loves gardening… have only walked laps around the fenced perimeter picking limes and the occasional fruit or other kind of vegetable that’s allowed to be picked free anytime from the perimeter trees. We asked and were told it was a public free event.
After entering and starting to pick we were then told that the “free pick what you can” was only free with a donation. We let Amy, their school program liaison know that we didn’t have money for a donation. She let us know it was okay if we didn’t have it. Apparently not having the money was not okay because after leaving the inside event area, I was harassed by a lady who refused to give me her name so I can’t say who she was and what part she takes in the company & at the event.
My toddler was playing in the auditorium area which is part of our play routine when we come.. she starts yelling at me through the fence saying that I was picking corn that was unripe and that I intentionally left in a hurry trying to hide what we picked… (we had been there for a few hours walking around casually as we had been told it was okay) my daughter had never seen corn grow before so we picked about four husks out of 20+ or more plants. After getting home and washing them, I can say that it is edible and we will definitely not be wasting anything that we picked.
I took a photo of what we picked after we got home and I washed it and it all fit into a single mixing bowl. We live in public housing a 5 minute walk from here. What a joke of a company and a sad sigh to the city of Henderson for this kind of business to happen in a...
