Not for weddings! Our daughter rented this facility for her wedding. It was VERY expensive ($6-7k) and only included the venue, tables, chairs, use of the kitchen & facilities. Everything else (including dishes and glassware) had to be rented from outside sources and vendors.
**Note that we rented the facility BEFORE IT WAS EVEN BUILT so the couple fully trusted PLV with their big day! At the time of booking we knew there “could be” wine tastings on sight but were made aware there was a cellar where tastings could take place if needed.
Our wedding day was cloudy with patchy rain and of course PLV decided to use the main area for the wine tasting instead of the cellar in a separate area of the property. We had to share the upper parking area which left handicapped folks being transported up, us carrying items, moving cars and being transported to the main building. The two dressing parlors where the wedding parties get ready are directly off the main building wine tasting area.
The problem? To carry in our clothing and supplies we ALL had to walk through the wine tasting area. To have lunch (we had planned to use a table or two in the wine tasting area for easy access but it was full), so we had to walk through there to eat in our main venue where our dinner tables were being set up.
For photos and all other needs we had to walk through there. Crowded. People irritated. Us scooting around servers and people. Just crazy!
The bridal parlors are decent sized but there are not adequate plus ins or hanging areas and the downstairs one has no ventilation. It is hot and again, directly off the wine tasting area so opening the door causes privacy and noise issues.
Before the ceremony, the people at the tasting could see the couples “first look” when family was asked to let it be a private moment. The entire wedding party had to traipse through there to come and go. Very tight and uncomfortable.
The venue itself is beautiful and everything was awesome. However, we had guests later tell us that folks from the tasting area were walking across the hall to get drinks from our open bar and desserts. We also saw every employee eating plates of our food including the wine tasting staff. The couple had small boxes of food to take home but very little was left.
It seemed the venue worried more about the wine tasting than the wedding.
You may wonder why we didn’t address any of this with the owner. We did. He rudely informed us that this was the way they handled all weddings, that the brides knew (though who would have ever thought the unbuilt building would have such a horrible layout) and that we’d have to deal with it.
Easy solution? Use the cellar for tastings on wedding days.
We guess $7k per day is not enough for some greedy people. Selling those extra bottles of wine are worth an unsettled, difficult to maneuver wedding day. It’s a nice view but I would probably find...
Read moreFirst let me say I enjoy leaving great reviews for local establishments, but my visit today was exceptionally horrendous on so many levels. My husband and I paid $80 in advance for tickets to their oyster roast event, and it was a disaster. The gravel road approach to the event was littered with discarded coiled electric fence, stacked wood, and other dangerous debris which we dodged. We were right on time for the 1 pm event but the place was already jammed and we were parked in what looked like overflow gravel parking like sardines. We walked uphill several hundreds of feet to another long, steep, nearly vertical hillside atop which was perched the main buildings. They offered no shuttles for anyone with compromised health and made no mention of this in their ticket info which was shocking and spoke volumes of how they regard their guests.
And the day went downhill from there. When we finally got to the top, there were no signs directing guests where to go, and people were wandering aimlessly asking each other how to get to the food and what to do. After a long line to the check in process, my husband and I waited over 30 minutes in another line simply to get a plate to put oysters on. Then it was another line to wait indefinitely for a few oysters. There were only a few people manning two cookers there that we could see and hundreds of people kept arriving. I watched in horror as dozens of people put their hands all over the few squeeze bottles of condiments that were made available instead of providing sanitary individual cups. Oyster were coming out way too slowly and folks were getting visibly annoyed and complaining. After several more minutes of waiting and beholding the utter chaos unfold, it became clear that they were woefully unorganized, and getting our meal today was going to be a punishing process of fighting people for oysters. And the “all you can eat” aspect was a joke with the long, slow lines you would have to re-enter.
I found an associate and respectfully requested a refund since we had not eaten anything and could not wait any longer. I was denied a refund and told that people that just arrived were getting their food immediately. This was clearly a lie and designed to make me go away.
So Point Lookout got our $80 and gave us nothing but a disappointing Sunday afternoon in return. Believe the bad reviews you see here. And by the way, their wines are really pretty awful too. We will never return to this terrible place, what a mess and...
Read moreWe just had my cousin’s wedding at Point Lookout so this review is fresh and as a bridesmaid that assisted behind the scenes, I’ll start by saying that their views are so beautiful and the venue was super spacious. So with that being said, it was really upsetting that we were not able to utilize the entire space, as they were still opened to the public and conducting regular business. The groom and his groomsmen had to clear out all their things from the Groom’s room where they were getting ready just minutes before the ceremony just because the staff stated that once the men’s restroom was full the public could use the restroom in the that room as a backup since it was on the lower floor. Ridiculous if you ask me. So if you are wanting to have full access to the space and amenities you PAY for and a private space to celebrate, this will not be the venue for you. As they seem to put their business more of a priority than the private events they host. Our beer selection was picked out and a PREPAID amount was set a few months prior to the wedding, yet during cocktail hour while the couple were taking their photos, we found out that the wrong beer was being served and guests were being charged. They had to send someone out to pick up the correct selection. The staff was also not the friendliest. They are in charge of setting up the tables and chairs however, we (the bridesmaids) were asked by one of the staff members to assist with the chairs, when we had so many more decorations to go up (you only have a few hours to get setup) so obviously we were not going to help with something they were in charged of. There was no clear communication as to which of the refrigerators could and could not be used, and were fussed at because we “took up to much space.” The manager Cindy was also not the friendliest or communicative and made it pretty clear (with facial expressions) she was uncomfortable with the music selection (it was a Hispanic wedding.) I am not one that likes to leave reviews like this, but if I’m able to help future couples looking for a venue for their special day by putting these warnings out, I’ll gladly do it. All and all we did our best to make sure the Bride and Groom had a great time and not have to deal with all the unnecessary frustration the venue and...
