Vermilion Valley Vineyards, Wakeman Ohio:
Beautiful and rustic outside, lovely and contemporary inside. Being an estate winery they only use grapes that they grow themselves and boy do they turn those grapes into something amazing!
Off the beaten path (in a good way) they are Located in the LAKE ERIE Appellation. Growing their grapes on 120 acres and turning them into some of the best tasting wine I've had in a long time. They are very aware of the impact farming can have on the environment and do everything possible to maintain sustainable practices.
They are a Harvest host site and it was very easy to get in and out of the area they give you to park in. There are beautiful views of the grapes all the way around you and a lovely pond to look at while sipping a glass (or three -🥂 😊) of your favorite wine on their back deck.
If you're not sure of what you want to drink they offer flights at a very reasonable price so you can find that special blend that makes you happy. The owner was very pleasant and took his time explaining the various wines and even the order best to try them in.
When we are passing through this area again we won't hesitate to stop here and enjoy the views,...
Read moreMy sister and I decided to give this place a try for the first time last night (a Friday). I had looked at their website the night before and as a sweet wine drinker I was excited to see their large selection of fruit wines. When we got there there were only two choices listed on the board under the fruit category, pear and peach and they were out of peach. I asked the bar maid about the other choices that were listed on the website and I was told that they didn't have those and that the site had not been updated in quite some time. I tried a sample of each of the only two sweet choices they had and decided on a bottle of the pear. We took the bottle and went upstairs to sit down where we were soon met by a swarm of fruit flies. We decided to see if we could get away from them by moving outside. It worked for about fifteen minutes and then we were found by another swarm of them. This place is very pretty and could have lots of potential if they could find a way to get rid of the flies, offered a dessert choice on their limited food menu, and had a better selection of sweet wines for those of us that prefer...
Read moreWhen we drove up we actually thought it was closed. It looked like a ghost town with all the flower beds dead and the weeds instead of grass. Especially the 2 large dead planters on either side of the door. But when we tried the door they were open. We were greeted by a very friendly dog. I'm a huge dog lover but the smell of dog and the dirty floors were a big turn off. Then as we sampled the wine ($1.00 for barely a sip when the previous 4 wineries we went that day were ,50) Anyway, the cute dog kept stealing corks and bowls from behind the bar, yeah cute until the server/bar maid put the bowl that was just in his mouth on top of the clean coffee cups. It's one thing to have my own dog slobber on me but not really keen on a strangers dog. The wine was good and we bought 2 bottles. This could be a gold mine if they clean...
