We always have a blast when we come to this reservoir. We had a birthday party on august 2 and one of the staff who was there early in the morning was extremely helpful and sweet. She was awesome. Unfortunately, before noon a group of people came to crash our celebration, they got into our gazebo even thought we got there at 7:30 since it is first come first served. At some point my family started to move because they were almost sitting on their lap. There kids were walking their dog at the beach. They were also drinking beer and whiskey. They were so close that they dropped a big bottle of coke and splashed most of our belongings. My niece was missing one of her sandals and after ten minutes of searching, my sister found it with the party crasher things so I was so worried we were missing more stuff at the end of the day. One guy called my husband a clown in Spanish, not knowing that he speaks Spanish, and which it is ironic since they were the ones who were trying to push us out of our space. One guy asked my husband if we could move because they had a big party and they didn’t bring enough tables for their guests. We were trying to ignore them all day and have a good time until we saw 6 of their kids and a woman SITTING ON OUR 2-PERSON PADDLE BOARD. The level of harassment was extreme. Their behavior was embarrassing. We try to talk to the staff at the reservoir but they were two teenagers scared to talk to them. They were so close that the staff thought they were part of our group. At the end, we talked to the police before leaving and they said that the staff should have notified them about...
Read moreWent kayaking here this weekend and was pleased to have something like this so close to home. The cement grade on the far right side of the reservoir is an easy place to launch, and though the reservoir is very small, once you get to the far end you can often have a section all to yourself for a time and it feels bigger than it looks. I was amazed to see four fish near the rocky area on the west side where some weeds are visible near the surface--three were small but one was huge and must've been over 10 inches. A mama duck with her ducklings and stray birds here and there made for a fun, relaxing paddle. The water is pretty cold when you first touch it, but as long as it's a hot sunny day you quickly acclimate. Being in a residential area the beach was absolutely jam-packed with lots of screaming children, and going to the far end didn't do much to reduce feeling like one is at a raucous community pool (I feel bad for the houses that face the reservoir). I do get a little queasy seeing so many young children splashing around and bathroom diaper changes...Cryptosporidium, anyone? It was nice to see a security/policy officer around. Every parking spot was full and many folks were parking on the streets, even...

We visited Blackridge Reservoir specifically because it has a clearly posted no dogs policy — especially on the beach and in the water. This rule exists for a reason: “no domestic animals” policy to protect public health and water quality.
Unfortunately, that rule was not enforced at all. Several dogs (leashed but still present) were walking on the beach and in the water, where they clearly shouldn’t be. We also noticed dog waste left in the sand and grass, which made things feel even more unsanitary. It’s frustrating for families who come expecting a clean, family fun environment.
In addition, the slide in the playground is far too high for toddlers or small children. A fall would be dangerous, with minimal safety features in place.
The water almost looked stagnant, which added to our concerns about cleanliness and maintenance. Along with dog poop lying around It’s important to note that dogs are not allowed on the beach or in the water at Blackridge Reservoir. Visitors should always check posted signs and follow local ordinances — but these only work when they’re enforced. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here. We won’t...
