I'll start by saying this is a beautiful, well kept park. The campsites are large and we were on the strip with the view of the river. I was disappointed with some things though so I listed pros and cons. Cons: You can't get down by the river. Its much farther away then it seemed from the pictures we had seen. So no fishing unless you drive some where to do it and that's a 15 mile drive according to the grounds attendants. If you forget something it is 10 miles on winding roads to the nearest store. It is hilly and winding roads to get to the park at all, but that's expected some times with campgrounds. Even as a paying camper they charge for the museum. Its small and not easy to get to because it's up a pretty steep hill, which is a shame because the gift shop is in it also. We did track down a grounds attendant and he was nice enough to take our handicapped friends up the hill to the gift shop in his cart and then return to get them down again. If they wouldn't have been in the area there was no way they could have hiked the hill to get to it. We never did find a men's restroom, just a single uni-sex handicap one that men could use. I was also disappointed that the river was so much farther away then we thought it was from the pictures we had seen. Pros: The sites we were at were quite level and good size which was nice. We had full hook up. The women's restroom was clean. It had 5 stalls and 2 showers. It has a small play area for kids with one climby thing and the bigger playground was by the museum which is far enough you have to drive to it from the campground. We drove 3 hrs to meet up with some friends to go there but wouldn't go again because there wasn't that much to do. Seemed many...
Read moreThis park is in my top 2 worst State Parks! The park was way off the beaten path and difficult to get to. Our site #28 was terribly sloped and we almost could not get our travel trailer leveled. Most other sites were sloped to varying degrees. There might have been two sites in the entire park that were close to level.
This park is not big rig friendly. TMobile and Verizon signal was very weak. Verizon had no service at night.
The campground host greeted us but that was it. Provided no information about the park, nothing.
The sewer connection was so far back that I could not connect with two lengths of hose.
The flies were so thick there was no way to keep them out of the trailer when going in and out.
We were so excited to stay there since it overlooked the Mississippi River. But so DISAPPOINTED ☹️ We had a reservation for 3 nights and left after the first night. Putting that park in our rear...
Read moreThis park is great the Camp Host is such a very nice lady. The park set on a 110 foot "BLUFF" over looking the Mississippi very big sites with picnic tables and fire rings well keep park. When you google map it it gives you reviews where people say that its on a "BLUFF" over looking Mississippi River. Also on google map it has a map showing it is not close to the river, but on a "BLUFF".. Then it has a web page that even tells you Columbus history. Google map makes researching so easy..
As far as the museum it should be part of the fee we didn't think it was worth it even if it was free, not much of a museum, but the park has real neat civil war stuff great history. The man running it is as excited as a bump on the log dose not add anything to the museum. All he said is "it is $4 per adult that be $8" and "there is a 8 minute video"...
Loved the area rolling hills, woods and farm land. Fulton...
