This is a wonderful place to spend time. There is a very nice disc golf course, playground, and place to walk.
There are a wide variety of birds and other wildlife you can find on a typical day. I've seen turtles running around the size of dinner plates, large frogs, and beautiful Cranes, Ducks, and Geese.
There is a boardwalk that takes you on a tour through the wetlands area, and is a great place to teach your kids how to fish. The park provides food to feed the ducks and geese, so bring quarters for the kids and have fun watching all the birds flock to you. (Please dont feed them bread)
The park is also great for exercise, the biggest loop around totals 1.7 Miles and includes some awesome terrain and elevation change that makes it feel like you are hiking. You'll find for much of the trail Nature swallows you and you are protected from the sun by the green canopy above.
There is an area where you can access the creek and let your pup run around in the water which is a great break on the hot days.
The only downsides is many people seem to smoke cigarettes that come to this park, and that can stink. People also seem to ignore the sign pointing out that there is a leash law.
All in all, I would recommend this place as a great place to spend an afternoon with the family...
Read moreWent for a Sunday afternoon walk in the park. It was fairly busy for a Sunday afternoon, with people seeming to enjoying all aspects of the park. We enjoyed the paved walking path as well as the wooden walkway and bridge's that went into the wooded area. I would have to say that the wooden walking area was a bit worn and weathered, and the grounds and water were littered with trash which was sad to see. We then made our way over to the children's play area, which I would consider a hazard. Many parts of the play area had either been broken or contained areas of rusted metal. Definitely a hazard that should be addressed. Decided to finish our walk up to the parking lot and again noticed that around the frisbee golf areas people had chosen to leave trash everywhere instead of putting it into the receptacle 2 feet away. Another disappointing aspect of the park is that it is clearly labeled as a non smoking park, and we came across multiple offenders. All in all, I would say to skip this place if you aren't up to date on your tetanus shot, you don't enjoying breathing in secondhand smoke, and don't want to walk through...
Read moreI went there only once in the spring of 2022 as there was a badly injured Goose that could not swim or fly which made it a target for anything going after it. I made at least 20 calls to Water Foul Rescues, no one could or would help this poor Goose. I called the Park number and was told there is no Park Ranger for any Park in Hickory so I received no help from the Park itself. The Carolina Water Foul Rescue in particular was a sham, received no help at all in fact they wanted me to capture the Goose myself without any training. This was traumatizing for me, an adult, cant imagine what a child would think. This is shamefull, irresponsible and the epitome of...
