Great side-of-the-road natural area. No real park 'amenities' like bathrooms, picnic tables/shelters, grills, etc., but has quite a large, beautiful waterfall and nice swimming hole worthy of the stop. Could spend the day there or just stop for a quick peek at the waterfall and stretch the legs. Main waterfall I estimate no more than 200yards from pull off parking area. I didn't notice any directional signs or trail blazes but there's really no need for signage since the trail is clear & well defined. However, adjacent private property is clearly marked no trespassing. Awesome daytime park and play area with no fees. But there is No camping allowed and everyone should be out of the area by...
Read moreSilver Run Falls is just a short hike to visit this beautiful waterfall. There is a small parking area along NC-107 about 3 miles south of Cashiers. It's just a pull off along the road so keep you eyes peeled. And it's a popular spot, so parking can be an issue. A short trail leads to the waterfall and the shallow pool is nice for swimming. There's also another waterfall further up. To to the left of Silver Run Falls is a cliff with lots of roots. Use the roots to climb up and it levels off at the top. Follow the obvious but overgrown path for about 5 minutes to Upper Silver Run Falls. While Silver Run Falls is usually pretty crowded, there's never anyone at Upper...
Read moreThis is a beautiful little falls and an easy trail that is less than 1/2 mile from the roadside. In June and July there are Rhododendrons in bloom and the weather is warm enough to sit by the rocks and sandy areas to gather some rays and paint your favorite landscape. Look closely at the sand and you will see the silver specks which give the falls it's name. I gave this falls 4 stars only because parking is limited and difficult to back up onto the 2 lane highway. If you blink you will miss the sign from the roadside. It also can get muddy. It's a beautiful 5 once you get there! ...
