We had a good weekend trip to the park. I was pleased with the group spot and other facilities at the park campgrounds. The shower facilities were a bit of a miss.
Using the group space was nice, there were even pads for two RVs and extra hookups for power, if you need it. Lots of space for our 20 people, and we could have easily doubled that with room to still hang out.
The playground, mini golf, and Frisbee golf are all nice features, but a bit basic. The kids had fun, which is what's important. He mindful of the sun, there's little cover on them so the kids will bake.
The movie night was a nice idea, but it started at 9:00 so it was dark enough. Unfortunately the kids were worn out and only two made it through the show. Also, someone decided to light up a cigarette nearby, which bothered a few of them.
It was nice having the shop walking distance away for basics you forgot or broke.
The shower facilities need repairs. Warning to the guys, as of our visit, shower house #1, shower stall all the way down only does scalding hot water - it's being reported to the park services.
Other guests were pretty decent. There's always a few in that dense of an area, but the group grounds we had were more isolated so you didn't have people walking through or close to your space, which was nice. Sunday a few bugged out at 05:00, but the we're as quiet as their turbo diesels could be.
For camping, it has a lot of good options if you want to go and chill. There's better spots if you want hiking, but the lake has options to rent boats and stuff. The beach a mile or two down the road is sand on shore, then rocks and mussels so water shoes will come in...
Read moreWe stayed at The Rocky Fork State Park Campground on a very hot and very busy weekend, and we were quite pleased with our stay. We were on a full hook up site, #22, with our 32' travel trailer and 2500 Ram pick-up, and the only complaint we had about the site was that there were numerous inconsiderate campers who thought it was OK to constantly cut through our site to get from one area to another. Our site was HUGE but had little shade, and the blacktop/concrete pad was spacious enough to fit our camper and truck. The campground was well maintained, and had some quirky "sideways" sites that you parked parallel to the road. Our site was a traditional back in.
The camp store is nice, but was sparsely furnished. It appeared that they had sold out of many things and just decided not to re-order. Firewood from the camp store was reasonably priced, but I wouldn't buy it again. It was slab cut and didn't burn worth a crap. Fishing was fun at the campground docks and the "common" area across from the camp store. The shower houses were very nice, and they even have a putt-putt course on site.
There are several restaurants, a dollar store, groceries, pharmacies, and a bait and tackle shop all within 10 minutes from the campground. Driving on North Shore Rd became a daily thing because it's the main route to get to everything. Along the road, we saw deer every day, and not just one...several at a time.
On Friday night, we drove an hour to Chillicothe and watched the outdoor drama Tecumseh. It's a must-see event if you're in the area.
All in all, we decided that we would definitely put Rocky Fork on our "yes" list for a...
Read moreVery crowded and some campsites are nearly useless with no grass, not even paved pad for an RV. Plenty of muddy deep dangerous ruts, plenty of mud to park in and track in your RV or camper or tent. Many teens, tweens walking the width of the roadway at dusk, nightfall so be extremely careful and drive slow since they won't get off the road due to the mud. It would be extremely helpful to place site #s on a posted sign at the end of each loop. Very confusing layout plus since it's one way traffic becomes time consuming searching each loop for site #. And those are painted on the end of the paved pad, hard to see in the dark. The restrooms and shower rooms, laundry are kept clean. The staff are wonderful. Some of the volunteers, camp hosts for this weekend were not at all wonderful. Playground great for the kids as well as miniature golf. Movie was Tim Burton's Dumbo, crafts were in the morning for the kids. Marina area very nice too. Overall it's a nice place except the blonde camp host and...
